Rover streetwise 2004 2.0 TD Se - rover streetwise clutch pedal and arm stiff - KCSRenault

Hello again,

I have recently been looking at different cars after various disasters with my previous car,

Anyway i have been offered a city rover which was no use (rotten) and now i have seen a rover streetwise at a local garage, 2004 90,000 miles, diesel, service history, very clean car, no rust etc, very good for an 2004.

The one thing the dealer and i have noticed (the car is a trade in) is the clutch pedal is stiff, not overly (had a megane which was much worse) and the arm on the gearbox seems stiff. The clutch does not slip and the gears are a bit tough to get in but nothing major. How can i ease the clutch arm off, if possible without removing the gearbox, my dad said he had a rover in the 1990s which had a stiff clutch arm and he sparyed spray grease around it then worked the pedal, and then every six months put some graphite grease around where it goes into box, this seemed to last years apparently, however dont want to contaminate clutch plate.

Any ideas, as car is really good otherwise and is a really good price for what it is.

Thanks

The thing about having disasters with previous cars is to learn from your mistakes. With this post and your previous post, that doesn't seem to be the case. Now you have taken the sensible decision to come on the forum and ask for advice on particular cars. Unfortunately, neither of them are cars that anyone could recommend.

So maybe what you should do is tell us your budget, what type of driving and mileage you do. Then we can recommend the type of car you should be looking at. In fact, if you also let us know where in the country you are, we may be able to post links to specific cars in your area.

As a general rule though, and this is especially true for low budget cars, keep it simple!. No diesels, no turbos, no automatics.

As a general rule, for a very low budget, I'd be looking at older, unfashionable Korean or Japanese cars. Think kia rio, hyundai accent, toyota corolla, that sort of thing.

One last thing, although I don't have any specific information on the streetwise clutch, strictly speaking this is the wrong part of the forum for that question, you may fare better asking on the 'technical' page.

The engine/gearbox/clych in the streetwise are the old rover 2.0 combination, the 100hp version, not the bmw, so if it was me and i could factor in the price of a clutch (potentially) that in my humble and experienced opinion from "my days" is a better engine if it has had the oil changes.. perhaps worth a punt. £795???
