Hi,

a quick note regarding my friends experince this week with Evans Halshaw sell your car service.

He went online to the usual sites and Evans Halshaw offered him £200 more than the others.

Furthermore, there price had no administration fee or processing fee.

He booked his appointment for yesterday.

I went with him to provide a lift hime.

Entered local evans halshaw dealership (Vauxhall but his car was a Peugeot),

confirm a few details and check car paperwork,

hand over keys for inspection,

they took 20 minutes then came back and submitted report to their HQ who send back final offer price - this took another 10 minutes.

They stuck with their offer price which he was very happy about as the car had some minor scratches and scuffs on the wheek trims.

Provided bank details, filled in invoice, got a reciept and money paid into his account within 3 working days.

Overall a very painless experience, professionally carried out, best price offered (same as CAP clean) and honoured and no admin fee.

Why anyone would ever use again BCA's webuyanycar with their lower valuations, admin fee and 5 day wait for money I do not know.

Mmm, just compared the two on my car.
WBAC offered £300 more than EH!
They will match with written report - why bother!

Maybe OP has an interest in EH!

I think it's important to look at a number of selling routes.

Getting a valuation from EH / WBAC can be useful, because it's a tool you can use to see if a part-ex price is anywhere near the mark or not.

A friend of mine was changing cars a few months ago. So he went onto WBAC, and the basic offer was for £3500 (though that would be less the admin fee, etc). So when he went to the garage and they made him an initial part-ex offer of £3100, he was able to take control of the negotiations by pointing out how low their offer was, and thus forcing them to raise their price. Or, as he pointed out to them, he could sell to WBAC and then go anywhere as a cash buyer.

They agreed on a part-ex price of £3600 eventually (no admin fee, so he's £200 better off than with WBAC). He then got crafty with the garage by taking out finance on the replacement car (which got him an extra £700 discount), and he then cancelled and paid off the finance in full within the statutory 14 days, paying it off with money he had in the bank.

That is exactly what I did buying my car last month. Right down to settling the finance 7 days later.

You are right, It is a great to have an idea where you are before you start haggling!

Oh and last time I used WBAC I manage to negotiate away their admin fee and express transfer fee!
I guess they wanted my car but they did offer me £500 more than any dealer for a straight purchase after an expensive divorce.

I tried both WBAC and Evans Halshaw - despite their TV claim, Evans Halshaw were £500 down on a £10,000 value at WBAC after inspection - even deduction the admin fee and the faster payment fee, WBAC was still the winner.

BCA Derby's auctions sells cars from WBAC and Evans Halshaw so forget the hyped BS about cutting out the middleman!

regarding my friends car, they are going to sell it themselves.

Anything old or with enough damage/hassle to not make it onto the forecourt, goes to the auction.

My Hyundai was good enough (BCA Grade 1) to go straight onto a franchised dealer's forecourt - and did exactly that, from WBAC > BCA Derby >Hyundai Leicester as a Hyundai Approved car. Evans Halshaw has a Hyundai franchise within it's branches but wouldn't give a good enough price.

I've had a couple of online valuations from WBAC but never actually taken these as far as meeting up with the salesman.

One was for my son's Rover 54 plate 25, the other my 2007 Focus, and they were both well below what I would consider market value when compared with other online valuation tools. Given that personal experience I'd be very reluctant to use them.

As for EH, our local branch is a Ford franchise so I might take my B Max down early there next year and ask for a valuation. Can't do any harm and might even cut out the tedious process of haggling over trade in value.

I had quotes off WBAC for my 58 plate Octavia but I eventually sold it to a small local garage selling used cars, who were advertising as cars wanted for cash. I ended up with about £400 more for it than WBAC, so worth looking around. I could have got another few hundred if I'd sold privately but the car had significant transmission issues on the horizon, which was he reason for selling. I didn't want a new owner to take it on without some form of dealer comeback.

A downside to WBAC's pricing is that as an integral part of BCA, they have very up-to-date intelligence of what is, or isn't, selling well - so the prices can go up and down because of that.

Correct

which explains why they price diesels that are not from a German manufacturer considerably lower than evans halshaw

BS - my Korean-built diesel was lower at EH - that's after inspection not the "conditional" internet figure.

2 things

1. In EH defence, they do say clearly the conditional price and the guaranteed WBAC better price is based on a conditional like for like offer.
Do you really expect a business to offer you more when the conditional price is based on a car in retail condition on both the WBAC and EH websites?
If your car has issues then the price should rightly be altered to reflect them.

2. BCA prices do reflect the latest market trends far more than others. They have the information to hand. It’s the £49 admin fee then the extra fee again to have your money in less than 5 working days. Those charges stink as much as the motorpoint, car giant and the car people’s £99 admin fee.

They should be forced to include these charges in their quotation price.

1.EH refused to match my WBAC price, adjusted by the charges, after both had inspected the car - their promise is worthless

Seller beware - get firm prices from both and make your own mind up.
