Toyota Yaris - shahid1973

Which model of Yaris is more reliable 1999 - 2005 or 2006 onwards.

Don't know but mine is a 2001 1.0l Model.

It has only done about 67,000 miles, but these have been the worse possible miles - short daly trips.

Aaprt from normally services the only thing I have replaced, apart from tyres and wipers, is the original battery, which gave up about two years ago. Although I think the exhaust is on its lasts legs

It does feel very old now and I keep thinking of replacing it, but it just keeps on going, and my daughter is learning to drive so I'd rather her use the Yaris than anything newer

Mark 1 yaris is very relaible, simple to repair when it does go wrong.. and there are LOTS of parts cheap new or secondhand. if anything does go wrong.

Our 2003 Mark1 D4d has done 60k miles and is now used for short journeys only so it gets Shell V Power diesel or BP's equivalnet and a 20 mile Italian tune up ebfore MOTs.. Or else it fails MOT on soot test..

Apart from tyres and brakes teh following have been replaced.

Yuasa Battery after 10 years by Bosch Silver with 4 yr gntee replaced after 3 years under warranty with Exide

Several sets of front anti roll bar bushes - roads here are full of potholes. Now replaced with Mark1 Focus rear anti roll bar rubbers which are far better.(!)

Heater resistor £7.50 ebay used.

Rear coil spring this year - £37 - roads.

All original engine hoses and belts...Exhaust perfect - painted with heatptoof paint every 4 years..

Bodily no rust.. a few scrapes and dents - supermarkets.

No bulbs failed. Ever..(touch wood)...At MOT time two 2014 cars (BMW and Volve) with at least two failed bulbs..

Toyota Yaris - SLO76

The Mk I is the better built car, they're pretty hard to kill if properly maintained but the later cars are known for DPF issues on the diesel and rattling/snapped timing chains on the 3cyl Daihatsu designed 1.0 petrol though this is almost always down to neglect. Service it every year as you should and they're as hardy as any rival. The larger petrol units are pretty bulletproof.

From 1999 to about 2001 the Yaris was built in Japan to their stringent quality standards. Production was moved to France and to comply with EU regulations the local content was a key requirement.
So when I was looking for an auto Yaris the first thing I looked for was the logo on the window glass. If it read Sicursiv or Pilkington it followed that it was French and enough said!

From 1999 to about 2001 the Yaris was built in Japan to their stringent quality standards. Production was moved to France and to comply with EU regulations the local content was a key requirement. My wife had a 2003 Yaris and a 2005 Yaris, never any problems with either.

Galileo I take as read that it wasn't a diesel fitted with a DPF which have caused enormous problems for their owners. And they must be manual without the infamous MMT gearboxes which even dealers dis pair of when they go wrong? The Japanese Yaris autos were fitted with TQ boxes which one repairer said he had never been called to repair!

Quite correct, both were 1.3 petrol manuals, both bought used from the local Toyota dealer.

Sold the 2005 one to a local dealer last year for £1500 cash, which was £150 more than WBAC's offer. Still see it running around.

I don't think there's any evidence to suggest that you shouldn't go for the newest one that you can afford. The 1.3 petrol manual is the one to choose, ideally with moderate mileage - not too high and not too low.

Some Yarises may have been used as 'shopping trolleys': the low mileage will look tempting, but actually that's the worst use that they can possibly have.

Toyota Yaris - madf

Yoingest son has a 2012 Yaris 1.3SR. Bought it 21/2 years ago . Apart from a pinprick hole in a engine water hose (warranty), it has been faultless. Now on 48k miles.

Reversing camera, half leather seats and wide tyres make it very nice to drive. He loves it.

I've one, and find the reversing camera virtually useless after a short distance on wet roads. As for wide tyres, 175/65x15 don't inspire confidence, but do give good fuel economy.

According to Motoring Which the Mk1 Yaris Verso which was built in Japan and was available until about 2004 received the highest customer satisfaction score of any car tested. Shame about the styling unless you need the rear access for wheelchairs etc.
