£3.19 for a car with 8 months MOT. Can you beat this?

Those old Rovers weren't bad cars. They were comfortable, nicely finished and some of them were quite good to drive. The ones without the K-series engine were even reliable.

In the 1990s I had a couple of weeks with a 220i from the company pool while I was between company cars, and much enjoyed it. It had a very good power-to-weight ratio (a 2-litre engine in a body which was more than adequately powered by the 1.4) and went like a bomb.

I did take a Mondeo 1.8 LX with 4wks Mot in part ex for £10 once. Came with three quarters of a tank of fuel and a Tomtom sat nav in the glove box.

Guy had been offered nothing from local scrap yards and I figured it was a cheap run home after delivering his new old car. A Mitsubishi Carisma 1.9 DiD Classic. Flogged it to a contact who's into banger racing for £80 the same night.

Though the best value car I've bought had to be the near mint low mileage 2001 Ford Cougar V6 I bought last year for £300 with a short ticket. Put it in for a test and it flew through without a single advisory and flogged after 6mths of fault free but thirsty use for a nice profit.

Cheap cars are a great buzz. Beat the system, zero depreciation and cheaper to maintain simpler running gear if you avoid premium badge stuff. I've had loads over the years. I've had more problems with newer cars than the older stuff over the years too. Only thing that caused me to upgrade in recent years was crash safety since we had our first child.
