Best way to buy Irish car number plates - geek84

Hi Folks

I have a UK registered vehicle. Am I allowed to put on Irish number plates? I presume those are the ones which have 3 or 4 letters followed by 3 or 4 digits?

Where is the best place to buy them from? How can I make sure the seller is an authorised dealer?

Yes, you are allowed to use Irish plates as 'private plates'.

My wife (Caroline) has 'CAZ xx' as a plate on her Shogun.

As to where to get the authorisation to use from, I'd imagine any of the reg plate selling companies that advertise heavily in the sunday papers would be best placed. Not sure there is such a thing as an 'authorised dealer'.

Only Belfast ones-same regs. and costs as "cherished" numbers.

Assuming you mean Northern Irish plates as in the CAZ example above that's fine. Check with your insurer though as ISTR some policies have conditions exclusions relating to NI.

Plates from the Repuplic in form year - county - serial (eg 12 C 4567) would be a no no.
