Mazda CX-5 - Has my Dash Cam been installed wrong? - Kenneth Green

Hi all

I've just had a Thinkware F770 Front/Rear Dash Cam Installed - purchased from RAC shop and installed by Chameleon Codewing.

Went out in the car in the rain today and thought I'd check the quality of the recorded video using the Thinkware PC software.

The overall video quality is very good so I am happy with that but the top two thirds of the front image is above the area covered by my window wipers so that part of the video is obscured by rain drops...

and the rear image is upside down - seems as if the camera was installed the wrong way up.

Also the installer has placed the front camera so close to the Rear View Mirror mount that I can not slide the Dash Cam to the right in order to remove it - the Police in my area have warned locals to do this as there has been a rise in car break in's just to nick the Dash Cam.

My question is - is this normal or has the installer done a poor job?

Thanks all

Yup, it's a poor installation.

Why on earth do people continue to buy something from one supplier, and then get it installed by another supplier.

Get ONE person/company to do ALL the work, supply and fit.

Even if they're slightly more expensive (and if you point out that you can get it supplied by someone else for cheaper, they'll probably match the price), you've got an absolute chain of liability.

As it now stands, if you get a problem with the camera/wiring and it has to be replaced, YOU are responsible for the costs of getting it removed and re-installed. The same company does supply and fit, they are responsible.

There's a phrase : penny wise, pound foolish.

Erm - thats exactly what I did fella.

It was purchased from the RAC online shop with a installation package and Chameleon Codewing are the official installers of the RAC.

As it happens I called the RAC Shop this afternoon and they were not happy with how it has been installed either. The person I spoke to said they would chase Chameleon Codewing about coming to reinstall it for me FOC.

Time will see if this is what happens

Ahh - my apologies.

I wonder how much Chameleon pay to the RAC for the privilege of being 'official installer'

Just to finish this thread off....

Chameleon Codewing came out today and refitted the Dash Cam so

it is now working as it should so I am very happy.

It always amazes me how lots and lots of businesses who offer installation services have "operatives" (they are NOT engineers) who are not up to the job, so they have to send someone else out to put it right?

Why don't they just delay the job until "the bloke who knows how to do it right" is available?
