  • E class Merc W211 vs BMW 5 E39 / E60 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
In last weeks Sunday Times, Jeremy Clarkson says of the new E class: "..... I guess that?s why the BMW 5-series, now in its sixth and final year on sale, is still the car to beat. There?s a sense, as you turn the wheel, that you really are part of some unholy Darth Vader-style appliance between man and machine. ...... ......

  • £8k family hack - your advice welcome 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Know very little about the car itself though. Seem to recall TVM being less than complementary about reliability, but any advice welcome. Ford C-Max 2.0 TDCi - Budget will get a well specced 04 example with 60k or so on it. Will probably the best to drive, but what about boot space and reliability? I will also have to overcome SWMBO's initial view that "I don't want another Ford!"
  • looking to buy a small SUV, Vitara or Tiguan 21 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Evening all I'm looking to change my current car, a Fabia to a small suv such as the Vitara from 2015 on or a late series 1 or early series 2 Tiguan.  I only cover 12,000 miles at the most so diesel would be out for service, although I may consider looking at one as at the weekend I cover around 150 miles out and about with the dogs.
  • Looking for a new car suitable for 3 kids 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I currently drive a 2015 Renault Clio which I bought used in 2017, and it was fine for when we were a family of 4 (2 kids), but now we have a 3rd on the way and the Clio is way too cramped I’m going to admit I know very little about cars, so all I can say really is that I’d like a nice spacious 5 seater car for about 10k (used, on finance).
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX5 2.2 Diesel - Occasional stutter at speed 3 Apr 2021 (Forum)

  • To buy or not to buy (non structural write off) 22 Feb 2021 (Forum)
So, looking at a 2015 Peugeot 308SW, cat N about £2½k below market. I have little info yet about the car, but I'm thinking that the damage on a car about 3 years old (don't really know *when* it happened) must have been quite major to be a write off?

  • Kia Ceed Auto 1.6 CRDI 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Do I go for something in warranty still and spend £8-10k or would a low mileage 2011/12 with about 40k on the clock be good enough saving myself a bit of cash?  Is the 2012 that much different to the 2015/2016? Also is it advisable to go for a 2011 wirh 35k miles or a 2017 with 60k miles? I've seen both.  Thank you
  • Fiat 500 - Need some advice 19 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Hello everyone, I would like a bit of advice if someone wouldn't mind? I'm looking for a Fiat 500 2012 up to 2015 if I can find a decent one for the right price.  I wanted a twin air but someone said they are too much trouble to repair as costs double, is this correct? I like the idea of the small engine, no tax and my parking permit will be less than £40 a year.

  • Mental Japanese MPV 22 May 2018 (Forum)
Not sure how many manufacturers have decided that they need an MPV which looks like a cross between a a transformer and a Manga comic escapee, but Toyota obviously did, and actually went ahead and made it! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRESH-IMPORT-NEW-SHAPE-2015-15-PLATE-TOYOTA-ALPHARD-VELLFIRE-3-5-V6-EXECUTIVE/273108598264?hash=item3f968a7df8:g:XScAAOSwjeJalo-u A bit pricey granted, but how about it as a means of standing out from all those pesky 'me too' German SUV's?.

  • Local Police parked on double yellow lines tonight 2 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi all Tonight, our local Rozzers were parked on double yellows with 1/2 of their Ford Transit Police van on the pavement as well, obstructing the pavement especially for parents with prams {we used to use a wide, tandem pram} getting to and from my kids primary school. The pair of Police Officers were out in the street booking parents parked 'illegally?.

  • Considering a Golf 1.8 20v GTI 1998-2000 9 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Having long considered lots of cars, varying from Audi A3's, Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astras and 1998 -> 3 series. I keep coming back to the Golf, though there is a slight question mark over its reliability. I have read numerous reports on problems with window failure and coil pack issues.
  • Car for missus 8 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Budget is reasonably flexible but I think £8000 to £12000 is in the ball park. So, is it worth getting the 1.8i 'S' over the base model? It's got an LSD, but she's more interested in the ABS brakes. Apart from the headlights, is there any great reason to go for a newer one? What about the MGF -- are they cheap for a good reason?
