  • Hyundai Getz (2002 - 2008) - 2007 1.4L - First Service costs? 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)
SWMBO will not go for that price. It is more expensive than a Passat service. Must be joking surely. I'd have thought £100 max for an oil change and safety inspection. Any suggestions to reduce the price and retain the warranty? We live in the Chesterfield area. (year & engine size added to subject line as per the ignored requests)
  • Renault Scenic (1996 - 1998) - 1998 1.9DTi - Heater poor performance 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
    The heater matrix is not leaking, the coolant level is constant but even on a long run in this freezing weather the heat output is only luke warm, moving the heater control from hot to cold does make the output colder but on max heat it is pathetic. Any ideas waht the problem could be?? {updated post using drop down menus that weren't available at the time}
  • Nissan Primera (1990 - 1996) - 1995 1.6LX Dipstick reading (Engine Oil) 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The first reading I take with the car having been standing for a long time shows the level to be at "max" but if I replace the dipstick and look again it appears to show much higher level. Is it possible that the process of replacing and removing the dipstick causes it to pick up oil from somewhere other than the sump and create a false reading?
  • 50 mph everywhere! 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
50 MPH max everywhere! Is this what all roads will be like soon? Herself and I went out yesterday, from Leek in Staffordshire, into Derbyshire, Asbourne, Belper and then north on the A6 to Matlock. All of the open sections of this drive (ie, not 40 or 30 limits in towns and villages) are now limited to 50mph.
  • Small Car Recommendation for 19yr old, £1500-2000? 21 Sep 2007 (Forum)
She regrets not taking us up on the offer of old 1994 Volvo 440 "tip trip" car and needs to replace the Corsa with something cheap to insure and ideally more reliable than the Corsa has been. Any suggestions for £2000 max? thanks
  • Family Car Advice 2 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Our four month old baby is growing fast so we need a 5 dr vehicle. I am looking around X, Y or 51 reg and around 50000 max with a budget of £3500-£4000 and have looked at the newer shape mondeo, laguna and picasso but am looking for feedback and other recommendations? The laguna seem reasonably well priced? Any advice would be great!!
  • Saving weight 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Other ideas range from a personal diet to only half filling the washer bottle to carrying minimum fuel. While I was reconfiguring the Focus for max load I needed to remove the rear head rests. I was surprised to find that each weighed 1.2kg. There has never been three passengers on the back seat and 99% of the time there are no rear passengers so IMO a minimum of 1.2kg weight saving can be made with a bonus of better rear vision.
  • Overtaking in a diesel 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I'm interested, as I know flooring it isn't the best way (Although, it spins around to 5000 fair more willingly than my old 306 HDi). It's a modestly powered 110hp VAG TDI engine, peak torque at the usual 1900rpm I believe. Max BHP probably somewhere around 3000. So, I'm driving along, and I come to the ubiqitous 40mph crawlers that plague the NSL roads of Surrey. I'm in 4th at 1900rpm already. What do you suggest I do to get past as quickly as possible?
  • Naive repair Que - insurance or private? 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
All, A week ago, just before we went on holiday some one bumped their car into my side door - causing damage to both passenger side doors. I have no idea how much it'll cost to repair - must be at least £500, I'd have thought. I have max. no claims discount (protected) - is it better for me to pay for this repair myself, or shall I go thru the insurance - someone at work said that even with protected NCD, my premium will still go up next year if I claim thru the insurance - which I don't quite understand.
  • Peugeot Motorhome 2.5TD 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
They say that oil pump is OK but drop valve, which I assume is the relief valve is marked. None of this makes sense to me as the valve limits the max pressure but if it was stuck open would it mean no pressure at all?? Any ideas, please.
  • Skoda/Vag 1.9tdi 100ps 4 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My thoughts are a faulty cap (which they dismissed)a blocked breather or they over filled the engine with oil at the service ( it was brimmed to the max with oil when i picked it up ). Has anyone else experienced this on a VAG Tdi ? Thanks for any help.
  • Crash Test Results Flawed???? 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi Most will be aware that we have the company that carrys out the car crash tests and gives the car upto 5 stars and 37 points max. The Americans have their own version. My query is, why are the tests not carried out on rear impacts?? This is a very important part of the safety feature, specially if you are rear ended on a motorway when you are stationary in traffic.
  • Subaru to go ? 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have just invested in 12 months tax, MOT and new tyres and will have to sell the Legacy to finance its replacement(circa 4k max) I can only think of a Primera as a suitably reliable replacement but do you BRs have any opinions for the sake of an extra 8/10mpg.
  • Everyone back to work on Monday 7 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Don't really know why but today appeared to be the quietest day, this morning, where there are normally half mile queues there were about five cars max. This evening, a journey which normally takes 45 minutes to an hour took me 25 minutes, wonderful! Cockle
  • Diesel MOT 9 Jul 2002 (Forum)
So: it is a 17 month old MB 320 CDI diesel with 45,000 on the clock. I am told it will be revved to max. governed revs. up to 10 times to get the acceptable readings - I am also told I should make sure the cam belt/chain is in good nick ( sounds ominous). What else should I do? Should I decline their very kind offer to rev. my engine, possibly to destruction?

  • Should I buy a new car now or wait till January? 27 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)

  • VW Golf Mk7 long-term reliability? 29 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hi all, Looking at buying a Mk7 VW Golf (1.4 TSI) or a Civic (2014-2015). I know Civics are hugely reliable, how about the Golf? I'd be looking for one around the 50k miles mark (with a full service history) that I can run into the ground and make it last as long as possible.
