  Reading diddy1234's thread about engine development testing got me thinking. Will a manufacturer ever build the perfect car? When looking at the car by car break downs I relealised how many manufacturers including the seemingly perfect Japanese, suffer faults and recalls with seemingly simple components.

  In a never-ending quest for fuel consumption and cheap tax, she's been considering the following: 107 1.0 Urban (with a/c), Clio Dci 80 Dynamique (old shape, again with a/c), Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 90 (6spd) Dynamic, Ford Fiesta Zetec-S TDCi and Citroen C3 HDi SX. I know its a varied list, and they all have their pro's and con's, but does anyone have experience of these in respect of higher-mileages? Are any particularly unrefined or uncomfortable on the motorway?

  Anyway, I would like to get something more exiting, but my budget is limited. It so happens that the Ford Focus ST 2 costs an extra £30 per month on my scheme above my company allowance, including a contribution to ?car tax?. (It?s a car ownership scheme so we don?t actually pay car tax). The other car is a Mazda 6 2.3l sport which is £20 below budget and I would get that back.

  I have a 2002 2.3 petrol Ford Galaxy which emits strong smell of petrol after being driven for a while which comes from: 1) the fuel cap area. 2) comes in through the drivers and passenger front windows whilst driving at moderate speeds.

  Recently I purchased a second-hand Ford C-Max (58 plate) from a well advertised dealership but soon found that unfortunately it had a number of faults. On approaching the dealership they have been unwilling to address the issues. From seeking advice I understand that leaves me the option of either a Section 75 claim from my credit card company (since I paid the deposit by card) or pursuing the Small Claims track of the County Court.

  Alternative suggestions welcome but do not want it to cost more than the Mondeo if possible and that is taxed at 18% for Benefit in Kind (Euro IV pre 2006).
