  • And the new Toadster is: 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Known problems: Water leak in the boot. Lights on buzzer doesn?t buzz. Bodywork not ?as new?. Apart from that it?s a gem. I paid 400 quid. Plus I can use keep my roof bars which saves me 50 quid. We must have looked at over 30 cars between 500 and 1500 quid. (Cavs, Mondeos, a 318, an Alfa 164, a golf!) This was the best by a large margin and cheapest by an large margin.
  • Deathwish kiddies. 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
In Norwich, especially in the immediate suburbs there appears to an increasing trend of bored young kids ranging from angry 8's to furious 14's to taunt and obstruct cars that are already going slowly due to the kids presence. Two tricks: 1. Run up the road in front of the car eventually slowing to a stop in a crowd in front of the car where they subsequently taunt and hurl abuse at the occupants. 2.
  • If you really want to pick fault with company car 10 Dec 2001 (Forum)
m not working undercover for the treasury, I?d like to make the following point: Imagine you have just chosen your next company car, let?s assume a popular choice - because it?s a lovely car and has an attractive CO2 g/km tax rating (but any car would do) so, you?re looking forward to collecting a Peugeot 406 2.2HDi 136 GTX. If you allow your employer to provide fuel for private use in this company car, the Inland Revenue will include in your income tax affairs an annual ?
  • Leo the Leaf replacement 23 May 2025 (Forum)
After viewing numerous tatty Leaf’s, and several overpriced Kia Niro’s most with zero history (so no battery warranty) and poor accident repairs, we’ve bought a 22 plate 18,000 mile VW ID3 58kwh Pro Performance Max instead - bring back L/LX/GL etc. Car is mint, approved used and as part of VW’s used car event it comes with two years VW warranty, breakdown cover, a £250 finance contribution and free servicing.

  • Mazda3/Toyota Auris Advice 5 Oct 2022 (Forum)
This will probably be the biggest stand alone purchase I've made in my life so far so after much deliberation, I'm settling on the idea that either a Mazda3 or Auris would hold me in good stead, as I'm after reliability more than anything else (especially reading through helpful recommendations on this sub). - My budget is £7000-£8000 max, this is will be through a personal loan @ 3.3% - Petrol only, with mileage 8-10k per annum - Ideally 2013/2014 onwards and Japanese reliability, is the main criteria I am looking at.   It would be great if people could give me their thoughts on some of the options below (admittedly, limited ones in market prices) Mazda3 -   https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202209019338589?
  • Mazda 2 - Remap? 4 May 2022 (Forum)
Plus a not quite so impressive 11Nm (8lbft?). And don't forget the improved economy :) Funnily enough the max power/torque figures are the same for all 3 versions (and other companies offer identical improvements). I'm guessing that they all have the same engine, which Mazda fit with different maps, and the remappers just have one map which is used regardless of whatever Mazda put in there originally.
  • Yamaha TMAX 530 or XMAX 400? 11 Feb 2020 (Ask HJ)

  • Skoda and Hyundai - Millers petrol additive. 17 Dec 2019 (Forum)
People here will know I'm not posting to advertise so will say at the outset I'm speaking about Millers Petrol Power Eco Max (500ml) bought for £12.99 today from Halfords. I saw mentioned, elsewhere, the abovementioned stuff and much prefer not to reply there, but to start from scratch here if that's OK. The suggestion is that it might improve this, that and the other as well as increase the mileage per gallon etc etc.
  • Buying a new car - Needing your advice: Is this legal and honourable? 3 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I have just retired and about to change my car to one that that myself and Mrs Monian can drive & share  to gain the max advantage of my new found freedom. I live rural wales and fancy a crossover SUV that will suit our needs admirably and after hours of research, we have finally made a provisional choice. A;though I do not feel that I should identify the dealership nor the make of car, we duly went for a roadtest yesterday from a small rural dealership and a fair enough PX was offered on my outgoing 1 Series.
  • Mercedes C220 Cdi W203 - Revs limited to around 2000. 1 May 2019 (Forum)
I have been driving it like this since last year when I bought it and 95% of the time its fine at 2000 rpm max as it had bags of torque and a 6 speed manual gearbox and will do 70 mph up most hills, its only when I go up a particularly steep one it causes a problem, changing down doesn't help as you run out of revs.
  • Warning signals on modern cars. 12 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Probably preaching to the converted here, but I just wondered what people thought of some of the warning signals that modern cars tend to feature.  Useful, or an aid to complacency? I took the B Max on a longer drive this week:  a round trip of 400-odd miles to Scarborough from North Wales via Hull and back. The car has enough power to spare for most situations, though the skin on the rice pudding remains intact.

  • which is the better car to buy second hand? 6 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi guys, some advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to buy a second hand car, money a bit tight, with a max budget of £7000. I would like one that is reliable, due the mileage I can clock up, I suppose I average about 14,000 miles a year. My driving habits are roughly, daily commute 25-40 miles a day, country A roads, with some commuter traffic.
  • Mazda 6 - Used Mazda 6 diesel - talk me out of it 5 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I can only afford this once. I've driven only small, old hatchbacks before, Focus/Astra level, two thousand pounds max. This might be the one and only time I can splash out on a car, roughly 8 or 9 grand. It needs to last.  Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
  • Citroen picasso 1.6 hdi - Injector seals - picasso hdi - damage by garage 11 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking for some advise, my car recently started to make a tick tick noise, we took it to the local garage who advised it was the injector seals however this can be a tricky job and quoted us £200 max may come in less depending on the work, the garage called after 2 days to say one of the injectors was stuck and they would have to smash the head in order to get the injector out, at a cost of £780 with a second hand head with 30 day warranty, after calling some other garages we were advised that there should be no reason to smash the head and to get the car removed from that garage so we asked them to put the car back together so we could take it elsewhere, they advised this would not be possible as the car no longer run, we had to tow the car to another garage as it would not even turn over, the other garage removed the injector which now need to be replaced however upon starting the car it was clear the other injectors had been damaged so all 4 needed replacing, the car drove in perfect just with a ticking noise yet came out a non runner, I am unable to prove that the garage damaged the injectors but this is very obvious, how do I stand now as I don't see what I should be out of pocket due to the incompetance of the original garage, sorry for the long post...hoping someone can advise me
