Problem with first gear - Hyundai Coupe 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi All I recently purchased a 1999 Hyundai Coupe 2.0cc Car is great apart from sometimes it can be difficult to get into 1st gear (whiile stationary).Out of about 40 minutes driving (into town and back), it happens about twice. Most of the time it slots into first without any problems. The car has just had a new clutch , could this have something to do with it? Any suggestions what might be happening here -

No more Short Walks. 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Tanks Eric Newby - who died yesterday - another travel great that has accompanied on my wanderings accross the world. Brilliant travelouges of a bygone age especially the one about the Hindu Kush and the drive there ! Some brilliant writing about my favourite holidaying area (Snowdonia) in that book as well. Cracking writer, didn't mess around with speed limits, Health and Safety and all that nancy stuff we have to deal with now even to go to the shops. -
2nd Car Insurance 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Why not? What a complete con! The fact i have two cars doesnt make me a worse driver does it? I can only drive one at a time so i`m stumped to see the reasoning behind it other than greed on the insurers part. Am i mistaken? (apologies if this is old material-i tried the search but it came up blank) Cheers - jon -
filling up 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I do quite a number of miles a week, often filling up more than once a week. Am i better off , doing as I currently do , fill up, drive 550 miles then when near empty fill up again, or fill half tank do 200 miles and then fill up - which is most economical. Finally why are the pumps so slow to dispense the fuel, the lorry diesel pumps are fine, obviously quicker, but why are normal pumps so slow -
What Would you have done? 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I was a passenger and we were slack-jawed at the behaviour of a driver of a transit following a car that was obviously not going fast enough for his liking as he was less than 10 foot off his bumper doing about 86-90mph. It was insane driving and there was simply no excuse as the motorway was very busy so the guy could not have moved over anyway. What can you do? -
306 hdi consumption 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I haven't done a proper check-brim to brim but after 70,000 miles of using this car it seems not as frugal as it used to be. It is regularly serviced, everything seems fine mechanically and the driving style has not changed. Tyre pressures are right, the airfilter is o.k and the brakes are not binding e.t.c. Should I check the egr valve? if so where is it and does it work all the time or only under certain conditions? -
Corsa 2002 - dash dials 'losing power' 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've got a 2002 1.2 SXi Corsa (still under warranty). This morning whilst driving to work it appeared I lost all power to the speedometer, rev counter, petrol gauge etc. This happened at least 10 times, but only for 2 seconds or so at most before they would return to 'normal'. -
Air Conditioning 7 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Have noticed during this hot spell that a lot of cars are driving with one or more windows open,I have told my wife never to open windows while the air/con is on as this will overload the unit as it tries to keep the temperture down,am I right in this my thoughts are based on an air/conned bungalow we rented once in Florida where the instructions were to not leave any doors to the outside oped as this would overload the system.Could these drivers be storing up trouble if as I suspect their air/con is on?. -

Best Automatic for 1300 quid 21 May 2006 (Forum)
Due to an op on the old plates of meet I havent been driving for a while. I am now looking for a motor and while the healing process continues (about 18 months) I think it would help if I drove an automatic. I only have about £1300 so I was wondering what you good peoples views are on the best made automatic car/gearbox out there is? -

Admittedly, there wasn't much low gear work and I didn't exceed 70mph. Are there any Backroomers driving a similar car who can verify this consumption? regards, P. -
MB servicing con? 29 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hello, My wife drives the old style 'A' MB. The car was taken by MB today and returned with it service book duly stamped for the ''A'' service. What concerns me that the MB main dealer did not use Mobil 1 as stipulated in their 'warranty policy statement' but used another brand of Mobil. -
Overhead Gantry Signs are Distracting 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Is it me or does anyone else notice the ammount of drivers who slam there brakes on to look at an overhead warning signs on the M25 that helpfully say things like "Dont Drink & Drive" At peak times I have seen lots of rear end shunts around these signs especially if they are displaying a long message regarding future congestion problems. Whilst the message is helpfull I think that some drivers with slower reactions or poor eyesight are becomming dangerously distracted! -
Which diesel: VW Polo 1.4 TDi or 1.9 SDi 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have posted previous messages regarding to a Bora, but now I might consdier a Polo. But not sure which one is better for motorway driving (15K miles a year). Bear in mind, economical is paramount. The Polo is about £2500 cheaper than the Bora, so I'm really up for it and also it's small and easy to park. So which is better 1.4 TDi or 1.9 SDi? -
Honda v. Volvo 11 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I often have 5 people on board and still do trips to college/university, so space is required. Test drives have confirmed the great quality of the Honda diesel, but any thoughts or comments would be welcomed! -
Passat and Indicators 10 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Driving with the Passat yesterday evening when the turning indicators started to die, ie started blinking intermittently, then after a few miles no response at all. Wondering whether the hazard light would work, again initial few attempts at pressing it yielded nothing at all, so Im now left with an car with no functioning indicators. All the other lights and electrics work.
