So you think I'm OK to fly the flag in my Swindon made Honda then mare ?
SWMBO's Toyota was made in France so she is not so patriotic as I am?
Is that really correct - Ford is a global corporation as are Toyota , Honda , Nissan and GM which is why I asked the question.
Surely if the money swells the corporate coffers of US or Japanese multi nationals none of your suggestions make the grade as an English car.

Personally I don't see any point whatever in decorating a car in red and white bunting just because a football competition is imminent, especially as it becomes noisy while travelling and adds to fuel consumption (we are told). It's just another way that some entrepreneurs have found of selling short-lived tat to undiscerning buyers.
Those flags! OK when on the driver's door but on the passenger side they're at eye level when I'm on my bike.
David, according to the news today you can "do" the driver for assault if the flag hits you!
And I though Dickens was fiction.

assualt and flaggery maybe?

I hope they do well in the Cup but I don't think they will. Most of them are over paid and under achieving and some of them spend more time advertising personal grooming products than they do on the training ground
Jimmy Greaves once summed it all up beautifully.
Where would you rank England in world football?
About 8,9 or 10?
Where do they usually finish up in competitions?
About 8th, 9th, or 10th.
I watched "How England Won the World Cup" earlier this week, dunno what channel. Anyway there was some fantastic old footage, including Alf Ramsey being driven away from the ground in a Ford Anglia.
Also each flag costs an extra £1 in fuel for every 4 hours driven - some researchers have too much time on their hands!
I'm not a footy fan and hope the sun is shining when England play so I can take advantage of some quiet roads!

>>being driven away from the ground in a Ford Anglia.>>
Oh how we envy the perks of being successful...:-)
Reminds me of my dark blue 105E with grey bodyside inserts.

You dont see many of those flags on the motorway. But I have seen some cars round town with little white sticks pointing up with an inch of shredded flag still on them! Seems like most, but not all drivers, have the sense to remove them before driving at 80mph...

OK see what you're saying. There probably aren't any English / British cars since Longbridge shut, but arguably if the car is designed and developed in the UK, then that makes more of a contribution to UK plc than a car designed in Europe or Japan and assembled here doesn't it?
(Range Rovers and Jaguars are designed and developed here aren't they?)

This is true! on my Bank managers life!
Saw a VW Golf today, LHD, German plates, with 2 England flags attached to the rear windows!
Unbelieveable!

Support our boys....
Was at Old Trafford for the Hungary game - have seen a few games there this year and they're always full, around 68,000 to 72,000.
Attendance Tuesday? 50-0dd thousand.
People might be better turning up and supporting the team when they're playing rather than buying st george cookies from Greggs and mini-kits from McDo's
Great link btw, DD

Probably a protective measure, to preclude his car being vandalised, trashed or torched! Allegedly coloured English fans have been given no-go areas in Germany, where their safety cannot be guaranteed. Might be same here for LHD Germany registered and built motors. I hope not BTW!
Going really silly now.
The most flags of the same type on any one car I have seen is SIX. Car was an aged Sierra estate. Either this person was super-patriotic or super-idiotic.
Flags? pah!. Windsocks have started to appear.

Anybody who supports 'Ingerlund' is fine. Anybody who thinks ther are going to get close to the final wants their head examined. With a few exceptions, they are bunch of over-paid no-hopers who are more dedicated to a consumer driven life-style than playing footie! I laugh when I read that 'X' earns £10,000 a week! He doesn't get close to earning it - it is what he is paid and there is a big difference IMHO.
"I laugh when I read that 'X' earns £10,000 a week!"
If only...
I ran out of noughts - I meant £100,000 a week natch!
A while back I saw a documentary about Tony Adams, who had an alcoholic fall from grace around 1990. He was Arsenal captain and briefly joint England captain, but in the various library footage on the documentary, the only car you saw him driving was a Granada Scorpio.
Nowadays they have all got Astons, Ferraris, Bentleys, etc. Its ridiculous what some of them get paid. And then you hear some clubs are having financial difficulties; well what a surprise, I've got no sympathy for them.
I don't begrudge some footballers earning their massive salaries - as a member of Joe Public, I simply exercise my right not to go to top-level football matches and therefore don't contribute. I'm a football fan, but support and help out at my local club.
However, I do object to the massive salaries paid to GPs - I don't have any choice in contributing to their salaries. And don't mention the chief executives of building societies etc, grrrrrrr!
Grumpy old man - moi?
In Liverpool today - a Range Rover Sport, a C class Merc and a V70 all with England flags.
GPs do not have massive salaries, this was just incomplete facts and rubbish porported in the national tripe.
My GP drives a old Rover 200 so "supported" british cars.
So, you don't believe what the papers say (fair enough), you go by the type of car driven by the tradesman in question. Well, my GP drives to work in his Noble - British, but hardly a sensible choice for everyday use.
They work hard, live on the edge litigation wise, they deserve what they get. For the record, Our GPs drive an E46 320dSE and a Merc 190 on G plate (but he also owns an SLK !)
A nice array of cars, PU, and er..... how many houses?
Glad to see that references to motors remained in the GP part of this thread - let's make sure it keeps that way, and doesn't stray into unwanted areas please.

Two GPs - 2 houses as far as I know.
Nope, in the "trade" myself , and know what is fact and fiction ;-).
I support british by driving a 1997 Jaguar X300 but have a sensible spanish build 2004 fiesta to suppliment the thirst for fuel.
Footballers don't earn their salaries - they are paid them! I suggest that your GP is a lot more use to you than a professional footballer!
Sadly, my GP is about as much use as a marzipan doorknocker. Unfortunately, unlike footballers, he doesn't have a 'use by date'.
>>Nowadays they have all got Astons, Ferraris, Bentleys, etc. Its ridiculous what some of them get paid. And then you hear some clubs are having financial difficulties; well what a surprise, I've got no sympathy for them.
I have a friend who is a pro, based in the old Eastern Bloc, and he earns a reasonable amount of money. However, his career will end in a few years time, and I recall his early days as a 'pro' when he was on peanuts.
Nope, he's not in the 100K-a-week league, but he's doing OK, and investing his tom wisely, in property and bluechips, as opposed to bunging it all on the 3:30 at Epsom. (700K in betting debts by one large-eared footballer???- WHAT???)
Motoring wise, he drives a Lada there and back here a Tourag.
Well said.
Ford Zephyr V4 x 2
Ford Consul
Vauxhall Viva (1100cc)
Austin 1100cc
Yes a load of old cars - what they have in common is that they were the motors of choice of the 66 World Cup Squad. Doubt whether Rooney and co would be seen dead in Mondeos, an Astra and a Rover 214.
Well at least a fotballer train and you can see him work for his money which pays for his cars .(His own money).
Unlike a certain politician who plays croquet in office hours .
Note to moderators: he has 2 Jaguar cars so very much on topic:-))

Nurses train and work hard but much more likely to be found driving a Mondeo/Astra/Rover - I know one that plays croquet but she doesn;t drive 2 Jags !
