  • Peugeot 206 - Returning a used car and refusing repairs? 8 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi all,  I bought a Peugeot 206 Roland Garros 1.4 automatic 2000 reg about 2 weeks ago from a local garage/dealer. Cost me £2,200, looked to be in great condition, had 60k miles on clock and had MOT done after deposit.  Just a few days later I started noticing problems (which I should have reported there and then, but lets not dwell on past mistakes).
  • Mazda Mazda 5 7-str (2005 - 2010) - Mini-test of facelift Mazda 5 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The main difference is the additional of a five speed autobox instead of a four speed. (In the UK, the old model had no automatic and I think held up sales). The car we had over the Christmas break was superb. We did about 1,000 miles including a long drive from the north through the Negev desert to the Red Sea resort of Eilat.
  • Glass's Guide E39 5 Series values 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
For this example, I will use a 2002/52 plate 530i Sport. With 42k miles, a 52 plate 530i Sport Automatic trade books at £14175. A manual trade books at £12500. With 100k miles, more my sort of thing, the price is £9975 and £8875 So, from this I decude that manuals are NOT sought after and this is reflected in the residuals.

Difficulties also arise for hauliers in identifying exactly who to contact prior to moving a load due to changes to contact details, de-trunking orders and area boundaries. The site offers an on-line mapping system for hauliers to plan their route, and will automatically generate an up-to-date list of the authorities they need to contact. These easily identifiable contacts will ensure more accurate notifications, safer movements and help to simplify the current system.
  • My scariest motoring experience to date 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
All was well until the road which leads down ("down" being the operative word here) into the town. I was driving SWMBO's car which is an automatic Nissan Almera and I've not driven a FWD car on the snow for years. "Look at that car in front" pipes up a small boy in the back. "He's swerving all over the place!". At that moment, I lost control of the car, despite remembering something which Sir Jackie Stewart saying about one of his sons stuffing a car on a snowy slope because he didn't know about putting the car into "2" instead of "D" in such conditions.
  • Do we molly-coddle cars ? 12 Dec 2002 (Forum)
My cars get serviced when something doesn't work or they don't run right; they get an oil change if and when they get a service; virtually any noise can be ignored or covered by increased cd player volume and you get used to it in time anyway; the brake discs would need to be in pieces before they got renewed; the punctured tyre gets replaced on its own, the others can get used to it and who gives a stuff what angle the steering wheel is at as long as the thing goes in straight lines, except when you would prefer it turned corners; as long as the car is level and not making bangs, then the suspension is clearly ok; if it gets a wash, which frankly isn't that likely, it'll get the nearest, convenient automatic car wash and be grateful for it; it gets petrol from whichever pump I stopped next to from whichever gas station I happened to be near when the fuel light started flashing; and if I need to start it cold, move it 2 ft and switch it off again it can damn well get over itself and start again when I need it whether the cat likes it or not.

Am I alone in this discussion group in thinking these statements taken in isolation (and possibly out of context) are not unreasonable. I don't want to automatically dismiss these statements as totally anti-car (though they may be meant that way). In the interest of stimulating some discussion, my own thoughts are: 1. Cars are a good thing, if used appropriately can be enjoyed by those that wish to use them well into the future.
  • X5 - what's it for? 8 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I have previously described the boss's BMW X5 as a ridiculous machine but I got a chance to have an extended ride in the front passenger seat when we did a round trip from Scotch Corner to Reading. It's a 3 litre sport automatic with black rear windows and the optional monster wheels. We set off round the Scotch Corner roundabout like it was a 5th gear road test with VBH at the wheel, and settled into a steady cruise at 95-100 mph down the A1.
  • Have things gotten this bad in the UK courts yet? 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Terrence Dickson of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up because the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation. Mr. Dickson found himself locked in the garage for eight days.

  • ID3 initial impressions. 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
It’s as quick to accelerate as a GTi yet smooth as an S class. There’s no noisy combustion motor up front rattling away and no complex automatic gearbox - it’s a battery and a big electric motor. It’ll cost buttons to fuel, and it cost nearly £20,000 less than its new price at less than 3yrs old with 18,000 miles up and it looks like a new car.
