1.0L Corsa 1998 pinking 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Don't know if it's related, but the car will often 'hiccup' when setting off after standing in traffic for a while. The fuel and filters are new and the EGR valve was replaced by the previous owner at the last service. I'm just a poor student who can't stomach the idea of playing with the timing, or even worse paying for someone to look at it. -
very slow galaxy 1.9 tdi PD 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
For the last 6 months my Galaxy has been very slow on accelerating and top speed of about 75. It really caused problems in Wales !!!! I have changed the MAF sensor twice - Fuel filter - air and oil filters - and checked intercooler and as many pipes as I could find. The symptons were: acceleration very slow of the mark until hit 2000 rpm and turbo kicked in and then kicked out straight away. -

Fiesta 1.8 diesel/injector pumps 16 Jul 2006 (Forum)
or am I better off changing the pumps over, presumably including the injectors and filter units? Is there anything else to consider if changing the complete fuel system from one engine to the other? All quite urgent now as I have a dismantled car and two engines blocking my drive! and my girlfriend needs her car back on the road!! Any help gratefully recieved. -
03 Rover 25 2.0 TD IL ...should I? 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
but apart from clutch problems it has always been mega reliable and I wouldn't mind something similar again - just not a Peugeot because of the weird pedal situation! As for why it has to be a diesel, I just prefer to spend more on the car and less on the fuel... I had a 106 1.1 and put in £20 a week, a Corsa 1.0 and put in the same, a 206 2.0 HDI and put in £25 a month and the same for the 106 1.4D. For some reason I don't seem to get the book figures with a petrol? -
1999/T 416 k-series, 83k, wet starts 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Not a sniff of potential HGF woes on this one and I intend to keep a close eye on coolant/rad/hoses/etc after learning my lesson with the last Rover! Fuel pump kicks in, engine turns fine, just doesn't fire. A liberal dose of wd40 around the distributor cap and exposed ht connectors followed by 10 minutes wait usually cures it. Having searched the forum there are several stories reporting similar problems, the recommended solution usually appears to be one or more of the following: 1. renew ht leads 2. renew spark plugs 3. renew dizzy cap 4. renew rotor arm Ours is getting 3 and 4 done tomorrow by our mechanic friend who suggests these are most likely to cure the fault. -
406 2.2 HDI 136BHP better than 110? 4 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 51 plate 2.2 with 39k on it. Done over 10k in the last 8 months, mostly mway, use millers diesel additive, good fuel & bounce it off the rev limiter once a week. It has most certainly enjoyed the attention of an italian tune-up. Before this I had a 110HDI model. Now then. I reckon that this 2.2 has little, if any, more power than the 110, applies its power higher up the rev range & isn't as refined. -
ABS light on/off volvo 850 M plate 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Whilst Golf is in garage I've been using my Dad's M plate volvo 850GLT 2.5 20v Only 40k miles on it & needed a good run anyhow, so check all fluids, tyres, bit of VAG fuel cleaner (thank you all) & then some optimax. When all warm put the box into sport & gone for the Italian Tune Up. Done about 200 miles on it. Sure ain't a T5, but pleasant enough. Yesterday, after about 15 miles & over 50 mph the ABS light suddenly lit up. -
Uninformative Owner's Manuals 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I guess they are covering the user operation (fair enough) and product liability angles, but I really would like some more info - on VSA for example, which wheels are braked and under what circumstances (it says not all of the braking system is under VSA control, whatever that means), and when might I want to turn it off? (it tells me I can but not why I might want to). There's a light that flashes if "unsuitable fuel" is used - I would like to know if it would operate should somebody put petrol in by mistake (which it says "may cause serious damage"), but of course that information is far too interesting to be included. -
vw 2e3 carb probs? icing?? 6 Dec 2005 (Forum)

Astra Diesel 22 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Even when the engine is warm, if we lose revs for any reason (slowing right down for another vehicle, or moving off from a junction) there's hardly any power at all and going up over steep hills we sometimes have to change gear right down through the box. > Our fuel consumption remains steady at around 60-63 MPG. Any other ideas we can try to fix this problem or shall we just get rid of the car? -
No Timewasters!! 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Heaven forbid if you want a test drive and don't even mention an independent check. You could just imagine the reaction if you had a 30 minute test drive - using up his fuel and then said --- No thanks!! No one wants to deal with punter's who have no intention of buying in the first place but surely this is part of selling any item and it is quite likely that people will view and for genuine reasons decide not to buy. -
306 won't start really urgent please 12 Sep 2005 (Forum)
hi just finished rebuilding my 306 engine, it's had the following done, headgasket head rebuilt/cleaned up glow plugs cambelt waterpump fuel filter oil filter air filter now it is refusing to start, i have read the old posts and they all point to an air leak but i can't source one, i have primed the system by hand till the pump hardens and it still won't start, have also tried pumping the primer while turning the engine over. immobiliser is fine so sort of stuck now, onl issue i feel maybe that 1,the intercooler to inlet manifold gasket is really poor, can i replace this with instant gasket? -
Which Estate? 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
2.Speed is not a concern of mine so under 2 litre will suffice. 3.Budget of up to 13K. 4.Car can be up to 3 years old. 5.Must be as cost effective as possible i.e when considering depreciation, maintenance, fuel and insurance. This is probably the biggest deciding factor for me as I hate losing 000's on cars!! My shortlist so far: 1. BMW 318 Touring - My BMW has been extremely reliable and reasonably cheap to run. 2. -
Bentley Running Costs 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am trying to find out the cost of running a used Bentley. Obviously I would expect my fuel bill to just about double, based on getting around 30-35 MPG at present. Insurance would also be a bit more. What I'm interested in are the servicing costs more than anything. As an example, a 1992 Bentley Turbo R for 19K: ...76,000 miles from new with main dealer service history...A new engine was fitted 10,000 miles ago (due to flood damage) by Hanwells of London costing £19,700. -
Lumpy idle on a 214 Si 5 May 2005 (Forum)
As you can tell from the price, I want a cheap, no hassle car to last me the summer. If it's going to be a case of a flush of the fuel lines and injectors, then I can probably cope with it - if it's going to mean new injectors or anything over £100, I'd be inclined to let someone else buy it. Another question is how long you could viably drive a car with these problems? -
Vectra vs Mondeo 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Here's the pros & cons as I see it over the 01'Mondeo 2.0 Ghia I want:- Pros 17 months warranty remaining Considerably younger, lower mileage car Lower insurance costs (group 7 vs 10) Better fuel economy? Cons Lack of grunt from 1.8? Not as much fun through the corners Fewer toys to play with (though it does have cruise over the M) 1st service not yet been performed so due imminently Help I can't decide what to do! -
SAAB (mostly) cold starting problem 4 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I've suggested they get the coil and lead changed which they are doing this week but this is clutching at straws. Also I've checked the fuel pump is working. Oh, and they had the oil changed within the last 6 months also and she doesn't use it much so no high mileages or lots of runs involved. Does anyone have any other suggestions if changing the coil doesn't help? -
Sofa so good! 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
It weighs less than 75kg (max recommended weight) and is narrower and shorter than the car. Trying to imagine it I think it would be just about 1m tall and looking a bit silly. Fuel consumption would suffer and maybe rocking it (with acceleration and braking) on 2 bars at 700mm spacing might cause damage to the roof rails and fixings. Do I want 3 or even 4 bars on the roof? Anybody got any views? -
Peugeot 106XR Quiksilver 19 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I heard an audible click (like relay contacts opening or closing), the engine cut out but restarted immediately on ignition. Reading the handbook I am suspicious of the immobiliser, fuse or relay contacts, or possibly fuel pump. Has anyone had a similar problem with this car. I still have a short time of my warrantee left. Thanks in anticipation. Romi
