  • Comedians Car 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
    'New Tricks' last night showed a successful stereotype of a 60's comedian ( Bernard Manning type ) in the present day leaving his huge detached house with his golf clubs . He then proceeded to put them in the boot of a ....??? Not what I would expect such a person to drive Clue - it was not a Rolls Royce or Jaguar.... ...... A bit of Friday fun- take a guess ...
  • Shortest production engine 14 Aug 2009 (Forum)
    I have one in mind but I'll save it until we've got a few in. I don't mean a one off special fitted with a Proteus, but something you could drive up the High Street in and do the shopping. Ted
  • DIY breathalysers are useless fakes 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
    www.parkers.co.uk/News/News/Cheap-Breathalysers/ Quite an interesting article, I wonder how many people have used them and thought it was safe? I think the only real sure way is if you drink a lot the night before don't drive the next day. {link to rival site made non clickable}

  • Delivery distance 1 Jul 2008 (Forum)
    My last car, an 06 Passat, had seven miles on the clock when I took delivery. The dealer supplying my next one, a Fiat, is 270 miles away and proposes driving it to me. I don't feel a car with 270+ miles registered is a "new" car. Am I being unreasonable?
  • Easy access seating 15 May 2008 (Forum)
    I'm looking for any recommendations for cars that give easy access to the driver, with a preferably higher driving position, and a more upright sitting position, not a 4x4, due to a back injury that makes getting in & out painful if the position is low Ie i'm looking at the citroen berlingo the mercedes a class & the fiat multiplas- but open to suggestion {edited to remove SHOUTING!}

  • Petrol in Diesel 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
    I went to pick our Octavia up tonight and the guy told us he had put petrol in the car by mistake. The station is only one minutes drive away from the garage but I was just wondering is there anything to be worried about? The garage have said they will put it in writing that if anything goes wrong with the car they will be responsible.

    driving along a straight road yesterday late afternoon I noticed an approaching car's lights going on and off repeatedly. I then realised they must be auto lights reacting to the sunlight streaming between clumps of trees.
  • Pass Plus 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
    My 22 yo step son has just passed his driving test today. One of the 38% who get through first time in Chesterfield. He is now going for Pass Plus, a good thing I believe. But does it really make a big difference to insurance premiums or do only some companies accept it.
  • Mazda Xedos 9 (1994 - 1999) - Stiff auto gear change 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
    Is anyone aware of the possible cause of the auto selector getting stiff i.e from drive to reverse. The hotter the engine the stiffer it gets. I don't believe it is the cable as it can be seen to move quite freely until the slack is taken up.

    The heat shield between the exhaust and engine sump has worked loose and I'm unable to tighten it as one of the nuts has cross threaded. The rattle is beginning to drive me mad now. Is it wise to just remove it for a week when the car goes in for a service?
  • power tool racing? 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
    was reading a magazine while SWMBO was shopping and came across 'power tool racing' Basically it's hand power tools nailed into some sort of chassis and the course is 75m long 'cos that's their longest power lead! How about six chainsaws driving a go-kart or a leaf-blower powered dragster? What would you build?

  • Golf Headlight beam deflector templates 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
    Can anyone suggest an online website where I can find the outline to make up a headlamp beam deflector(s) for a VW Golf Mk4 - for driving in France. Unlike certain other manufacturers there is no template in the handbook. I know all I need is some black tape in the right place.
