mon/tue/weds evenings are good for me
Adam - the Strawberry Duck is on the other side of Winter Hill, in the back of beyond, where 'there be dragons' and other exotic creatures
|
Ahh right. You coming along too Mike?
--
Adam
|
|
|
Adam is right-ish.
Entwistle is on the Manchester - Blackburn rail line and can be found by putting Entwistle into www.Multimap.co.uk and is north of Bury/Bolton. Great real ale pub called Strawberry Duck.
However, I am based much closer to centre of Manchester (Prestwich) so would welcome other suggestions - somewhere on the East Lancs Road?
Also, near my office on the A6 Crescent in Salford is a pub called The Crescent which is also a real ale haven. Is that more convenient for people? Its close to Salford Uni.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
How about having it a bit further south so us stokies can attend without going too far - remember you don't need a passport to go passed knutsford services!
|
|
All the places I know would be a bit far away for you. My Dad reckons there's a big pub called The Royal Oak on the Lancs which, when he went ages ago was pretty good. Near Boothstown I think.
Other than that, whatever's easier for everyone else.

Adam
|
I was thinking of the same, Adam. I'll check it out this week and report back.
Should we confirm Tuesday evening 16th Aug at about 8pm.
going to bed now - 'speak' to all you northerners tomorrow.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Yeah, Leeds sounds good, nice and central.
As it happens Tuesday is my only night off work, so if it was a Tuesday, I could even be tempted to venture outside the North East for the first time in a while. I've been looking for a half-decent excuse, the last one I used for a good road trip was lame, me and my mate decided there was nowhere to eat in Sunderland or Newcastle so we drove to Edinburgh for lunch! :-)

|
>>so we drove to Edinburgh for lunch!>>
I prefer nipping to Paris or St Tropaz in the Lear - so much more classy than Princes Street and usually much warmer...:-)

A Manchester suggestion for you - Robin Hood off junction 16 of the M60 - on the A666. Very handy as it's at the top of the slip road so really easy to find. Added bonus of two for one on all main meals all day!
|
Oh yeah - I can see how "checking a pub out" would be hard work E. All that drinking ;-)
With regards to Leeds, I'll leave it in Espada's capable hands. He is the organiser after all. But don't call him Sir.
Davey - 2 for one on all meals? I may go on my own one day :-)

Is it worth working out where everyone is and finding a central-ish point? I'm near Halifax/Huddersfield
Tues 16th would be fine for me
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
|
i think you shouldnt have handy to someones house you should conincide it with a meet at high edge raceway or oulton park or three sisters or cars of the stars in lakeland
and make a day of it,
after all after youve introduced youself to each other what are you goning to do? talk,,,, that s what a forum is for isnt it?
|
Robin Hood pub at J16 of M60 is very convenient for people coming from Leeds direction. Has a large car park as well.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Right
Had a look at the pub on the East Lancs, but it is now a pizza place. The Robin Hood is a bit scrappy and you cannot get to easily from the clockwise direction of M60.
However, at J17 of the M60 is a TGI Fridays. At J17 take to A56 south (sp Prestwich) and after 100 yards is a traffic light leading into a large Tesco and TGI.
Very handy location, and at least feels a bit decent. Also, easier for those who want to pop over from West Yorkshire - so I have re-named the thread.
So to re-cap; unless anyone has a far superior location can I confirm the North of England Back Room Meet on Tuesday 16th August at 8pm at TGI Fridays, Prestwich, Manchester - directions as above.
See you there
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
A pizza place? Jeeez.
I reckon that'll take me about half an hour to get there so yep. Can do.
See you there.
--
Adam
|
I assume that I will recognise your car and you will recognise mine?
After all how ofter will a beige (sorry gold) Focus saloon find itself close to a car of the quality and panache of a Forester XT?
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
And there's me thinking it was going well without anyone saying "oh - we'll know when Adam's there". Then you had to go and spoil it!
I was being kind in the other thread, now I'm not. You can join all the others in being an oldie. Go on. Go!

Adam
|
Yep, I know TGIs. I'll probably bring the fabia, in the fashionable gold colour that so many celebs, aristocrats and VIPs tend to drive these days (ahem) or the Mini if the weather is good and traffic light.
I could wear a carnation but there's a photo of me on the msn site : uk.msnusers.com/honestjohn/people.msnw
If your mug isn't on there, post it!
Do they have an unlimited ice cream factory at TGIs?
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
|
Looking forward to meeting you Lee
I may (repeat may) reveal my real name............
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
I'm up in North Wales on those dates so I could come accross in theory, about 90 mins from where I stay.
|
It would be great if more people could come along.
If nothing else but to put names to faces!
--
Adam
|
Obviously I meant faces to names. I was just testing you.
--
Adam
|
And we can name Adam's face. Oh dear, sorry
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
|
Ever the joker Lee. ;-)
--
Adam
|
Espada; Likewise, no need to reveal real names though...
PU, would be great if you could also make it - traffic should have quietened down a little after 6.30 on the roads over from North Wales.
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
|
Yeah PU. Would be great to meet you. You should make it over without too much traffic after 6:30pm.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
So apart from Adam and me, and possibly Pugugly, who else is coming?
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Me too, if only to find out what we look like !
|
Great, so assume that there will be a Focus saloon, Forester XT, Bora and PU's BMW
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
No - it should be Octaviasport.
--
Adam
|
Have I been uninvited?!
...and a golden Fabia
-- Lee .. A festivus for the rest of us.
|
It goes without saying you're coming along Lee. You're.....Lee!
--
Adam
|
I can make it in September
Around the 19th
(my birthday)
|
Look forward to seeing the most mentioned Fabia in Backroomworld, Lee.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
It could be my Touring which is under used according to SWMBO.
|
Well, it's there to be used PU.........
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
If you're worried about leaving the 5 at home PU, I'd be more than willing to drive it up for you. I'll even do it for nothing.
--
Adam
|
The 535d looms, trip to the dealer at the weekend.....
|
tempted to make the trip north - any other stokies fancy joining me?
|
Would you be leaving off from a midlands town with a number of large brewing concerns?
Number_Cruncher
|
We would be delighted to host some Pottery or Brewery people, if you wanted to make the trip.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
If we are going to get some representation from our Stoke colleagues, maybe we should make it easier for them to get there. So apart from Adski and Borasport who are coming from Wigan area and PU who I think may come from North Wales, can anyone else who is thinking of coming tell me where they are coming from.
There is a TGI Fridays at Junction 7 of the M60 (Sale) which is just as convenient (if not more so) for all those mentioned above, but a little less convenient for those coming from Yorkshire.
If we have both Yorkshire visitors and from the Potteries, we'll keep it at the TGI at J17 of M60 (directions above) but maybe if no Tykes, then relocate to the Sale place. I'll post directions later if necessary.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
EIII - there is a pub called 'Mascrat Manor' just off J21 of the M6, which is much favoured by motor clubs, presumably for its convenient location - if you google it, you will find that such and such a club meets on the third friday, etc, etc. Might be more convenient if Stokies but no Tykes ?
Then again, if you want to meet at the Wheatlea, just off J25, Adski and I could probably walk
|
The Wheatlea does cracking food. And yes - we could walk but we're not going to!
--
Adam
|
Doubtful - would probably be leaving the scumhole of the universe that is also known as stoke on trent!
|
Bring a bottle kiln
I went to Poly in Stoke. Is the The Corner Cupboard still there?
|
Well the poly is now a uni and if i knew what the corner cupboard was i'd let you know if it's still here
|
It?s a pub about two minutes from College Road in Shelton. Happy times.
|
I think i know the one you mean - next door to a small garage and pretty close to hanley park?
The Roebuck and the terrace are the two main student pubs in the shelton area now.
|
That?s the one. Yeah the Roebuck?s always been there but I didn?t like that one. Unbeatable naan breads is what I miss the most about Stoke. Big as dustbin lids. Best Baltis in the world.
|
I'll come if it's nearer Stoke..
