  • Renault Grand Scenic MK III 2010 - APPROX repair / diagnostic costs in this list 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I'm just trying to get a rough idea at the moment. Any of the areas below you can help with, I'd really appreciate. Thanks. The car is a 2010 MK III Grand Scenic. * Very loud cracking doors - Door strap checks? and likely replacements of parts to 4 doors. * Oil and filter change. * Replacement 'hands free' key card.
  • Honda Civic Hybrid - First Impressions 27 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Although it’s the same 2.0 full hybrid powertrain as the CR-V, it now accelerates more like an EV, and gaining speed now produces a much more muted tone than previously, with simulated gear changes - all electronics as there isn’t a gearbox. It has lost the definite CVT ‘elastic band’ feeling of waiting for the car to catch the revs. There’s a bit of tyre & wind noise, but easily masked by the Bose stereo in the Advance trim. Fit and finish are what’s expected of a Honda, and it’s a very agreeable place to cover a couple of hundred miles, something you can’t always say of full hybrids.
  • Ford Fiesta - Door won't open from outside 26 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Ford on Twitter, say they are unaware, like the agent. Perhaps it's  case of 'well they would say that, wouldn't they ?' The car runs so well, but I am losing confidence in it. At least the cover for the fuses has not fallen off lately, thanks to Blu-Tack.  Wonder if anyone else has experienced this ?
  • Lexus LS430 - Driving to Europe in an old large engine Lexus 4.3 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
So on a last minute impulse I have just booked a ferry trip to France in my 2002 Lexus LS 4.3 litre an old beast which hasn’t been in use for a while now . Now I have just realised that there may be some additional issues with driving a large engine car. Apart from getting the warning triangle, breathalysers, spare bulbs and high visibility jacket... Would there be anything else that is required? Or any precautions? Or any areas to avoid? Running through a last minute checklist as below MOT- Yes Recent service -Yes Insurance-Yes Breakdown cover-Yes Lights -working Any areas I should avoid.
  • 2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T - Safety Issue - Rear Disc Brakes 12 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The dealer has said the vehicle is not safe to use, the brake pads are completely worn away, and the discs heavily scored. We are therefore left with no option but to leave the car at the dealership. Nissan UK have confirmed that this is consistent with normal wear and tear and therefore not covered under warranty. The cost of repair is £245.00 + VAT = £294.00.
  • Parking Charge Notice 10 Feb 2017 (Forum)
They have then said they will reduce the charge to £20.00 to cover administration costs they've incurred in issuing the PCN. Now, in my eyes, this acts as though the company have admitted I paid and are just attempting to get money out of me - do I actually need to pay this £20.00?
  • Hyundai i30 - Rear wiper not working 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The 15A fuse tests OK 2. When the rear wiper is switched on, we can hear a relay clicking in the nearside rear of the car, somewhere between the boot and the rear passenger seat. 3. I removed the boot lid inside cover and the wiper motor is not making any noise at all.
  • Oil Change - Recommended or Interim? 26 Jul 2015 (Forum)
My 3 series (320d, '64) has now covered just over 9k miles with no issues at all.  The on board computer is telling me that there's another 9k or 1 year to go before I have it serviced. I must admit to being slightly nervous about that as previous diesels I have owned I have made sure that the oil has been changed every 8-10k miles.
  • Ford Fiesta - Distance to empty gauge 15 Apr 2014 (Forum)
My wife drives it and she noticed that when the warning light/chime for low fuel came on at around 50 miles left, the miles she continued to drive did not match the mileage countdown figures on the dial. I thought it might be the way she drove the car. I drove it yesterday and the low fuel light and chime came on at 50 miles left. I continued to drive and covered around 10 miles. The dial read 19 when it should have been 40. I could visually see the figure drop almost by the second.
  • HJ Real Insurance Initiative 21 Sep 2013 (Forum)
As with the "real mpg" initiative, I think there's a very subjective feel to it, as (similar to the mpg one not including driving style and the type of driving you do [town, motorways, etc], which can often account for a large variation in mpg on cars) it does not include the following:- Whether you use the vehicle for business purposes (either travelling to meetings, etc, or [more importantly] as a tradeperson [which supposedly bumps up the premium A LOT more]); What your excesses (both compulsary and voluntary) are - this obviously can make a huge difference to the headline price, which at the moment is the only one the survey goes by; Any "add-ons" to the policy, such as medical, legal and breakdown cover, which people might forget to remove (if they are given what they are on the policy document); Whether payment is one annual charge or in installments, which can increase the cost by more than 10% if memory serves.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Engine Water Temperature 18 Feb 2013 (Forum)
We have an ongoing problem with my wifes Vetra C bought new in 2003 and now covered 54000 miles 1.8 XE model. The vehicle is mainly used for short runs approx 7-10 miles. The engine water temperature gauge does not appear to reach what I believe is normal operating temperature, according  to Haynes manual the thermostat opens at 92c.
  • 2003 Fiesta TDCI - Turbo pipe hole 2 Feb 2013 (Forum)
When the turbo pipe blew could this have caused the fault code for the EGR valve to fire? Not having a good week with the car, it has got a new tire, two front shocks, front springs, top mounts, a wheel hub, wheel bearing, CV joint and turbo pipe Any help much appreciated, Thanks
  • Volkswagen Golf V R32 - 'Ticking' sound in R32 engine that disappears when 2 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My friend told me to contact the VW dealer as it could be the 'dual mass flywheel' (which being a blonde female, I have never heard of) and he said it should be covered under the warranty. Thanks if anyone can help in any way and does it sound like a warranty job?
  • Dealer Warranty (unexperienced owner) 22 May 2007 (Forum)
I'm a new car owner...lots of questions please help! I bought a secondhand Honda Jazz in July 2006 from Honda Dealer and got a 12 months warranty. I am looking to book for a Service before the warranty runs out, but I heard that dealer service are very expensive (not sure how much at Honda), if I go else where (Kwik Fit or Nationwide Autocentres, or anywhere else you would recommend?)
  • VW Polo 1.9 AEF - Loosing Oil 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Any idea whether this engine has a PCV - if so where is it? Also, what breather pipes should I be looking at? (Other than the one on top of the rocker cover which doesn't seem to be blocked) The car also makes a really loud rumble that can be felt through the interior when the vacuum pump kicks in after about 3 - 5 minutes of running. EGR valve is operating fine and the EGR pipe isn't blocked.
  • Cavalier Sri Ecotec top end rattles 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have a 94 model Sri 16V Ecotec, that has covered 85K miles and has full Vaux S/H, last service at 79K (inc new water pump & cam belt). It hasn't been used much in the last few years but after recently starting it up I noticed the top end is very noisy, sounds a bit like a diesel!
  • Imported Renault & Warranty Implications 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I can understand why they are saying this in principle, it is obviously a method to try to discourage people from buying the imports in the first place. What I find annoying is that the car is to the same spec as the UK equivalent, yet they are able to make such a restrictive condition just because they feel like it. What do others think on this?
  • Insensitive morons in DVLA 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
My father died not long before Christmas and is survived by my mother. One of my tasks is to notify all and sundry of his death including DVLA about his car.(1.3 Totota Yaris 21/2 yrs old - 5500 miles). I followed precisely the way to advise DVLA by reading the guidance notes that come with the V5 "log book". This included, as demanded, a covering letter explaining why I was transferring the keeper of the vehicle to his wife/widow.
  • Voiding warranty - can they do this? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I can understand if they said the brakes were no longer covered. Surely, brakes, as a consumable should be exempt and I should be able to get them changed where and when I require it? On this line getting tyres changed would also void a warranty?! The exhaust will also need changing shortly too!!
  • Alfa Romeo Rust Warranty 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Just before it's first service, I noticed a fair amount of rust on the exhaust silencer. I pointed this out when I took the car in and the garage told me that this would not be covered by the anti perforation warranty as the exhaust 'still worked'. It's now due for it's second service and the rust is worse than ever. Admittedly there are no obvious holes and the unit appears solid but clearly, at some point in the not too distant future, but presumably after the warranty has expired, it will need replacing.
