  • Freelander h/gasket, new engine??? 23 Dec 2003 (Forum)
A friend has a T reg Petrol Freelander that has been running warmer than usual for a couple of days. They've taken it to 2 garages, including LandRover who both say the Head Gasket has gone. Fine. LandRover want to put a new engine in it. This seems excessive to me.
  • Passat flood damage. 18 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My view is that the car will be a disaster waiting to happen, and that at the slightest sign of any electrical trouble (or preferably earlier) he should get rid of it! Any views? (The owner was previously intending to keep it as a long term 'run it to the death' vehicle). pmh (was peter)
  • H10 bulbs? To fit a Renault fog lamp. 17 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I run a fairly new Renault and am looking without much success for a replacement bulb for a front fog lamp ( no rush cos they only get used abou twice a year ). The bulb is quoted in the owners handbook as H10 which is what is stamped on the plastic bayonet fitting integral with the bulb.
  • Pug 206 overheating 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The only way to stop this is to pull over and let the engine cool down and then everything is fine again. I have started the car numerous times and let it run until the temperature gauge climbs towards 90 degrees and the fans work everytime!! Any ideas? Martin PS: Personally, I think the person that the person that designed the driver's position in the 206 must have been a sadist......
  • GM Oxygen Sensor - Failed again 8 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I fitted a new sensor around 18 months ago (Cavalier 16V Ecotec - Simtec 56)- now I'm getting the warning light intermitantly, usually after about 5-10 minutes running. Fault code is 13 ('oxygen sensor open circuit'). I've done more than 10000 miles in that time. Does anyone know if other factors can lead to early failure of the Lambda Sensor, or is it just a poor quality part (genuine GM - £115!)
  • Bentley vs the rest 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
But come the 1930s and the entry of politics to motor racing (Hitler and Mussolini) the german marques were winning everything in sight and Bentley were running out of money due to the lack of sales of Presitge cars in the depression. Worth it for the historic film footage. Next week is the land speed record. Ian L.
  • Performance Petrol 20 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone use super unleaded when their car runs on normal unleaded, for extra performance? My Honda dealer suggested Shell Optimax for my Civic Type-R, if the price differential is relatively small, as it is 98 Ron as opposed to other super unleaded which is 97 Ron.
  • Vauxhall Omega 1998R 3.0ltr MV6 estate 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have 17" alloys and was running on 235/45 radials(supplied new by the garage I purchased the car from.) Just fitted via Motosave, and on their advice, 235/40 radials. I have now no idea which is the correct tyre for this car. My handbook doesn't mention 17" wheels so no help there.
  • Incontinent Rover 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Two questions: The metal pipes to the coolant expansion tank are beginning to rust and metal replacements are a ridiculous price of £56!! Any reason why the whole run shouldn't be rubber compound, as some stretches already are, so long as I don't trap it, let it catch etc? The injection pump is leaking oil across the front of the engine, messy. My excellent local dealer is making gloomy noises about the cost of a replacement.
  • Omega battery/alternator warning light 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Could it be anything else. Omega is 2.5 V petrol. Ps at the moment battery is well charged and seems to run everything ok including starting. Kind Regards Ian
  • Mondeo TDCi 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Management light comes on and shuts down to "limp home mode". Cold starting is not good with rough running and smoke. The car went in last week for three days came out, ran fine for three days and went again. Now after another two days they cannot solve the problem, and we now await the visit of a guy from Fords,in 9 days time.
  • Another VW Sharan Misfire 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My 1999 VW Sharan 110 bhp TDi (red i) has a misfire ('coughs' on acceleration). So far I have replaced/had tested the airmass meter; new injectors; new...
  • Non existent roadworks 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just completed a rather nice M25/M11 run to Stansted. Between the Dartford Tunnel and J27 there were several sets of road works ahead signs but no sign of any work being done (thankfully). I don't know how long they've been there or when the roadworks were completed but I'd have thought it a relatively simple task to remove these as soon as the work was completed.
  • Omega Piston number 1 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
whilst 1 being just a little bit low, the engine ran like a dog and I changed it the new engine has 14, 16.5, 16.5, 16.5 So not as bad (and it runs fine) but still there is a noticeably similar pattern here. I am recon..ing the old engine so I won't really mind if the new one goes the same way as the old one
  • Fiat Uno (1992) battery draining 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I took out the battery a week ago,let it fully charge. Refitted and needed to "jump" the car to get it going. Took it for a run and seemed fine. Stopped the car and started again no probs. Tried the next day and totally dead. Not even a "jump" got it going. Stereo "facia" already removed just in case.Anything I should check???
  • Bus lanes & humps for the chop ! 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Just heard a London news item stating that a bus lane controlled by Red Ken's mob and apparently causing chaos on Kew Bridge is to be removed and that another controlled by the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (I think) is also for the chop. The same news item also mentioned that Tory run Barnet is to remove ALL its roads humps because it says they don't work. I'm not sure I agree with all of the above but it'll be very interesting to see what happens and whether this is going to become a trend.
  • VW Golf battery going flat 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
After parking the car for 4 days there's only enough in the battery to turnover the engine for a fraction of a second. The car lives on a daily diet of two 14 mile, 1/2 hour runs a day. The battery voltage is 14.4V with the engine idling and 12.4 V with the engine off. The measured standby current drawn is 0.15 amps. Halfords won't give me a new battery as their battery tester says the battery is OK.
  • 95 escort 1.8td smoke problem 7 Mar 2003 (Forum)
This has probably been asked before but here goes, problem is when I start my car for the first time (morning) it runs great no smoke when driving throttle response is very good but when the engine gets to full operating temp I notice the throttle response is not as good and it starts to blow black smoke out on acceleration.
