Need some advice/suggestions on my next automatic 2 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I'm looking for a few suggestions - I would like a VW or Audi but cant afford the badge premium. Only been working full time for the last year or so. I was thinking about the Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI, or the Vectra 1.9 CDTi but have always been told that the only reliable European cars were the Germans, and was advised to stick to Japanese if I couldnt afford a German and wanted reliability My budget is upto 5k (although I would prefer upto 4k) - no older than 02/52 and less than 80k on the clock Any suggestions? -
Citroen Dispatch - CITROEN DISPATCH VAN, TOWING RESTRICTIONS 3 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I need to know if i can use this van to tow, LEGALLY, a 4 wheel car trailer loaded with a medium sized car eg, Peugeot 206. Maybe i am wrong but, do you add the trailer weight and the car on the trailer together. Then that weight must not exceed the total weight of the towing vehicle. Is this correct please. Also do you think the 1.9 diesel is powerful enough to tow a loaded car trailer. -
Chevrolet Matiz (2005 - ) - 6 days in a Matiz - thank you Hertz! 17 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Booked a "small" car via the web for 6 days in France. Website suggested Fiat Panda or Peugeot 107 1.2 would be supplied. Either of those should suffice I figured, even though I had a 400km drive each way they should keep up with the traffic. Hertz gave me a Matiz 0.8... No other cars that small in their entire car park. -
Petrified Driver 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Coming home on M8 tonight, rain absolutely battering it down, visibility poor, traffic rush hour and there was this wee Peugeot 106 in the middle of it. Didn't have its lights on whereas most others did. Somehow it had ended up in the outside lane and was trying to get to the inside slip road 4 lanes away. Kept signalling and trying to move across but no one would let her in. -
Dealer lied about service on used car. 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi All Just wanted to ask for some opinions on this before I take action. Just bought a two year old Peugeot 307 from a local garage. It had 21K on the clock and needed its 20,000 service. The garage said this would be done before I picked it up. 4 days later I got a call to say it was ready and picked it up last friday. -
What to do? 17 May 2008 (Forum)
What with the price of fuel and the increase in road tax I was thinking of maybe getting something a bit smaller - more suited to carrying one bloke to work. I've been looking at Peugeot 206 HDI's. There's a 1.4 that gets over 60mpg apparently and is a lot cheaper on tax too. Anyone any experience of these on the motorway (maybe 60 out of my 70 miles a day is motorway). Would the 2.0 be a better bet? -
French Notes 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have not seen a single X5, Landcruiser etc on French plates, only UK ones. Q - Why is there still a French motor industry? Reps drive Renaults + Peugeots, the only Mondies I have seen have been on UK plates. Q - Equally, how can there still be a French motor industry when they seem to keep their cars for so long? I have seen Ami 8's, Simca 1100GLS's, Renault 16's 19's and 21's all huffing and puffing away Q - Why, when they are doing roadworks on a motorway, are there not 200 miles of cones and 1 lane and traffic jams for miles before you get to them? -
Worlds best ordinary car of all time? 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
A truely dreadful car in lots of other respects but it was practical - I owned one. 3) Escorts I and II 4) Peugeot 504 7 seaters - These were the first cars to truely cater for families larger than 5. Until then 2 cars or a minibus would have been needed for large families. On the same thinking - Espace- met the same need but with impreoved legroom. -
brake discs on 206 cc 9 Apr 2006 (Forum)
After I'd recovered from the shock of what 'could' have happened...I find out that it hasn't been serviced in the 18 months since she'd owned it...although Peugeot had fitted a new g/box 6 months ago. I fancy having a go at doing this job myself as it would otherwise be a suspended tow to a garage. My question is this:. How difficult would it be to do (I can do both sides of my '96 fiesta in 35 to 40 mins) but suspect that these brakes are technologically more complex. -
Claimed power increase - really? 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
In the pub last night a mate of mine was telling me his plans for increasing the power on his car. It's a 51 plate Peugeot 307 XSi (2.0 138bhp) After his sandard exhaust fell off, he replaced it with a 'performance' one which he was told should give him about an extra 8bhp. The company he bought it from then suggested that he could get a K&N filter and induction kit, an air intake which actually cools the air as it passes through, and a re-map/chip with the following benefits. -
Pug 106GTi (120) vs. Golf mk4 GTi (150) 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Guys, I was minding my own business on the M1 very early this morning way down south (empty road) when I saw a small Peugeot 106 coming up behind me. I put my foot down (was going at about 85 in 5th) and to my horror, the 106 kept gaining on me - I had to drop to 4th and accelerate to 120ish before he couldn't keep up / gave up. -
306 Dturbo diesel pump and immobiliser 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The 'new' engine was out of a car that didnt have the keycode, but they didnt know if it had a transponder do-dah. Anyway, I went to Peugeot to ask them but all I got was a blank look, so I thought id try here. Will I need to swap the pumps over? surely the code is stored in the ECU and that then sends a signal to the fuel shut off valve in the pump? -

Blue Oval, Griffin, Three pointed star.. 15 Oct 2004 (Forum)
In the past I suppose the jargonists would refer to Dagenham, Luton or Stuttgart but in these days of globalisation these descriptions have lost some meaning. We also have: the green oval - Land Rover the prancing horse - Ferrari The lion - Peugeot So here are some more suggestions: The two silver ovals in a bigger silver oval - Toyota The silver H - Honda The other silver H - Hyundai The four silver rings - Audi The Gold L - Lexus Any more, real or imagined? -
High Kerbs at Roundabouts 20 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My dad, whilst driving in France, misjudged the slip road off a roundabout, was only in second gear in his Peugeot 306, and his inside wheel clipped the kerb. If this had been a crash barrier a. He would have seen it better and b. His car would have suffered some scrapes down the wing. Instead the wheel hit the kerb and was pushed back into the engine bay damaging various parts of bodywork and engine, and triggering all the airbags! -
Peu406 discs & pads 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 406 2.0 hdi estate y reg 24000 miles and have had it for just under a year and have done about 12000 miles.I replaced the discs and pads around 15000 miles because the car was juddering when braking, and this solved the problem. However the same thing started happening about a month ago and the main dealer has told me that they need replacing again.A good mechanic friend has told me that both the discs and pads are fine,(the pads only about 50% worn and not 80-90% as the dealer told me.)He has replaced the pads and has only partially solved the problem,he maintains that the discs are perfect, so i am at a loss as to what else it could be. -
Pug 106 cutting out 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, todays problem - my mates T Reg Peugeot 106 1.1 It had been raining heavily all last night (don't know if this has any relevance or not) He went to start it as normal in the morning, and it would turn-over but not catch. 306 cutting out 27 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I got my Peugeot 306 lx 1.4 in Feb 2002, it has been back to the garage at least 10 times since for the same problem. When i am driving the car it will cut out with no warning, all of the power goes, the radio turns off and i am then stranded until the car rolls to a stop. -
Right Car, Wrong Car 10 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Tragically, I noticed that the car shown had the £270 SALT pack and £250 alloys on it, taking the price to £10,820 and then maybe and extra £250 if it was metallic black paint...Perhaps I should get out more. Anyhow. She seemed to love the MINI but went for the Peugeot - I'd have loved to see them try and haggle with a MINI dealer, I'd be interested just how cheap you can get one with a bit of haggling. Wonder if they told her not to go for the MINI as there was no chance of discounting.
