Every 3,000 miles 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Examine oil level in gearbox and rear axle and replenish if necessary. Apply grease gun to two nipples on the propeller shaft. Examine fluid level in the hydraulic brake-gear supply tank and replenish if necessary?the tank should never be allowed to be less than half-full of fluid nor closer than \ in. to the bottom of the filler opening?using only genuine Lockheed brake fluid. -
Driver training - skid pan 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Then a talk about what the correct reactions should be, followed by another swan round and a faster (30mph?) braking test. This involves trying not to hit a cone when braking hard in a straight line. Then finally a timed test in both FWD and RWD car. Highlight of the day? Up against a group of twenty year old know-it-all kids, I managed the best time in the final timed test. -
Peugeot 106 1997 1.1 - MOT - CO 2nd fast idle, & idle speed too high 21 May 2014 (Forum)
Hi, would anyone be kind enough to help, as i am slowly going mad :) About a month ago, a garage did a pre-mot test, and reported that the front brakes were inbalanced 38%, and the back brakes were useless at 50 (don't know the units). The only other problem for the MOT was a split CV boot. So, armed with Youtube, and Ebays finest ...off I set.. -
Mercedes Benz Sprinter - Mercedes Benz Sprinter wrote off by a Honda Civic! 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I obtained some cctv footage of the accident which shows the accident very clearly. The third party does not make any attempt to brake and in fact the van brakes his journey. He was speeding at least double the speed limit and was using his phone (which explains why he didnt see the van or indeed brake). Contacted our insurance company and forwarded a copy of the cctv to them. -
What's the worst modification you've ever seen? 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
But aside from the "go" it also had very little in the way of "stop". What felt like all-round drum brakes had obviously seen better days - that was before the extra horsepower had been added in. Below 30 mph, the brakes seemed to do nothing but make noise - at one point I was wondering whether we should deploy a small sail to improve retardation. -
Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - The joys of selling a car 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I went with him - quite a shock. He pulled the car onto the main road, went a few yards along and without warning slammed the brakes on. "Brakes aren't very good are they" he said. Just pulling back onto our road he suddenly swung the wheel, swinging the car into middle of the road. "Steering pulls really bad" was his comment this time. -
Renault Scenic v Citroen C4 Grand Picasso compared 30 Aug 2009 (Forum)
ON THE ROAD The two cars are very similar as far as road-holding and suspension are concerned - but the Citroen has a slight edge on comfort. Both had electronic hand-brakes. The Citroens was a bit slow in operation but the car had a hill-hold which would seem to be essential with hand-brakes like this. If the Renault had a hill-hold, it wasn't working on our car, making hill starts very difficult. -
Am I jinxed or a bad driver? (long post) 25 May 2006 (Forum)
I only notice him when I hear him clammering against the side of the car and bending my wing mirror. I hit the brakes again and, not being 100% sure since I don't know the route, I kind of don't say much back when he says "come on, man," as if I have done something wrong by turning left in a left turn only lane, which he seems to be ignoring. -

BIC (perhaps any ) - Another (non-automotive) Use For A Syringe 4 Nov 2024 (Forum)
I've mentioned how useful I've found enema syringes for brake flushing, and how useful other syringes can be for things like cleaning carburretors, though syringes seem to be quite hard to get hold of in The Yook.. If you've got one, try skooshing the brush head on your electric toothbrush out with a hypodermic pressure jet along its drve shaft axis I think you might be impressed with what comes out. -
Nissan Micra K12 - Indicators gone mad! 22 Sep 2024 (Forum)
If accelerating the car will lurch or lose power in time with the indicator! 2. If braking at the same time the indicator flashes faster 3. If I have the healights on, the rear indicator is dimmed and the rear headlamp and the tail light, flash in time with the indicator. -
Transit van camper - Pre purchase inspection 20 Sep 2024 (Forum)
It received a clean bill of health so he bought it. It has now broken down 12 times in 2 months driving around Europe. Needing brake down recovery and major mechanical work every time. Presently broken down on a roundabout in France waiting for another tow truck. He is cutting his holiday short and trying to make his way back to the uk. -
Citroen c3 picasso vti 1.4 petrol 2010 - Cylinder head removal 16 Sep 2024 (Forum)
It appears I have a burnt exhaust valve, starting to wonder if I should sc*** the car and recover the £200 I paid for it! Needs about £ 600 spares, battery, brakes, possibly cat. Inlet camshaft extremely pitted. And chasing a parasitic battery drain. Advice on any of the above welcome. Thanks. Mike -

Ducati Monster 821 - Safety Recall not honoured as bike was CatN 10 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Have a brilliant Monster 821 with the widely known useless rear brake problem. Ducati have a safety recall out for these (CR217 is the Ducati ref), but a Ducati main agent says they cannot help as the Ducati systems have effectively blacklisted the bike. It was just a CatN whilst it was a demo bike needed a replacement tank and had marks along on the exhaust - that’s it. -
Any non-FI - Carb Cleaning 7 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Fortunately I don't usually use much carb cleaner, having had some success with boiling with washing powder, old brake fluid, ethanol, and hypodermic syringes. This time around, however, I painted the outside of the carb body with sunflower oil to stop an untracable vacuum leak, and I don't know a good solvent for that stuff. -
Honda Civic - Handbrake 22 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Fitted new calipers and handbrake efficency was raised as an issue but passed, this year they failed Spoke with the mechanic and he suggested they where either adjusted incorrectly or faulty Had new calipers, pads and handbrake cables fitted since, slider pins are free and greased, pads are free, cable is free, handbrake lever on caliper is free, calipers have been bled To adjust handbrake I slackened off adjuster started car and pumped brake, adjusted cable until it just pulled the levers off stop pins. Nearside locks wheel up offside has some resistance but I am unable to lock wheel.. Really lost not sure if bedding in should matter i ruffled up the pad but still no difference Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated -

Toyota RAV4 D-4D - MOT Done 10 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Though it actually failed on the front discs, it was the advisories on the front subframe & sills that was of concern; the other advisory was "matter" on the rear brake pipes. Earlier this year the local independent removed the step plates, which seemed to be retaining mud & such, wire brushed & sprayed the underside with his own concoction of engine oil & wax. -
Insurance and self driving 12 Sep 2021 (Forum)
, my car can park itself, either reversing into a space ( used it twice) or parallel parking ( not tried it) , now I still have to use the accelerator and brake but the car does everything else, now is this classed as self driving, yes I know it’s only parking, but if I have an accident and have to claim whilst using this feature would I be covered..?
