  • vauxhall corsa 1.7d sri - my sons corsa 29 Aug 2014 (Forum)
my son has had his car nearly 4 months(bought secondhand from a peaugot dealer with finance) and has had so many problems..the day we picked it up we found the bumper to be split(ok when we inspected it) this was done by the garage hitting the kerb on forecourt..this took 2-3 weeks to rectify.
  • Buying a new small car for £10k - what do you recommend? 14 Jan 2014 (Ask HJ)
I urgently need to buy a small car. I need four or five doors, great safety and great mpg and either a five or seven year warranty. Price hopefully below...
  • Yaris Hybrid 8 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The Doblo has had suspension issues front and back, has just failed the MOT with a frayed seatbelt and I am not confident that it will be reliable now that the warranty is about to expire! 0% finance on the Yaris and Auris Hybrids at the moment, might even get a fiver for the Doblo! Any thoughts on Yaris Hybrid? Or the Auris Hybrid (which I gather HJ is rather fond of!). Thoughts on long term reliability of the Doblo (no laughing at the back!)?
  • New car needed for young driver who will cover lots of miles - what do you suggest? 12 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)
My 19 year old son has just got a new job that involves driving high mileage. He needs a new car with a large boot, good fuel economy and low insurance....
  • Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - Company car loss and replacement 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I will have a small cash payment but not enough to buy a car outright. I'm wondering whether to take a gamble and buy a cheap car at auction,or to go for one of the finance offers on a new one. I do around 28000 miles a year around half being business. I will only be getting statutory mileage for this. I have looked at a used Freelander from the dealer, a new Audi TT and a new Beetle Cabriolet.

  • Toyota Avensis 2007 - HPI CHECK always correct? Engine size differs 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Have decided on buying a second hand 2007, Toyota Avensis with pretty good mileage & service history. Have brought it for a test drive & today we are planning on organising finance. However, last night I did a preliminary HPI check on the internet, just using the reg from the Garage Website pictures & although, the Avensis we are planning on buying is advertised as a 1.8 VVTi Colour Collection, the HPI check brings up the following: AVENSIS COLOUR CTION VVTI Year of manufacture 2007 Engine size (cc) 1294.
  • Renault Twingo - Good Deal 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Additionally it has some body work damage ( a few paint chips at front, small dent at rear and most noticeably the passenger side sill is dented in and paint a bit stripped due to a car park catch).   Currently have 2 years to go on the finance at £161 a month. Looking at possibly changing it for a renault twingo. Deal been offered is; 62 Plate Twingo 1.2 Dynamique with Bermuda Blue and Air alloy options and renault 4 year package at 12k miles per year.
  • Ford Mondeo - dealer sales conditions. are they normal 25 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Just a few aspects that I'm a little surprised about from a dealership. Firstly a £70 admin fee. I'm not wanting finance, the car has been theirs since new, so why are they adamant there has to be a fee? What's it for? The car will not come with any road tax. It's being used at the moment, so why no tax? Don't most cars like this come with at least some tax?
  • Mazda 6 - Cancelled Direct debit - wrong choice? 19 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I am in a huge dispute with Mazda, my solicitor advised me 5 months back to immediately stop my payments to the finance department & at the time i thought great! my car is useless sitting on my drive so why should i pay for it. Only until a few days ago, he had messed everything up, tried to get in contact with him for over 2 weeks and then found out he got the sack!
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - switching to diesel auto box? good idea? 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
currrently have w reg astra 1.6 petrol club, thinking diesel is a way forward... any ideas on switching to a 1.7 or 2.0 litre diesel autobox for ease of use + the increased MPG.l good idea, or stick with what i have? finances dictate no more swiching of vehicles that as above, due to a few grand ready cash + trade in value. other option, upgrade to 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol manual... i like my car setup, how much bother to stick a nw engine in what i have already - ie swap the 1.6 with the 1.8/2.0 engine?
  • Advice please on best car to go for 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi I wonder if anyone can help, we desperately need to change our car as the fuel efficiency is quite dire (chrysler grand voyager) and have been thinking of taking advantage of the scrappage scheme namely for a Toyota Yaris. However as this will have to be financed on a PCP scheme with quite a large final payment we are wondering if we may be better off with buying a second hand car, saving money is a top priority. I was hoping someone might be able to offer a few suggestions...
  • Scrappage scheme problem 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I don't know how they input details sent in by post but whoever typed our address from registration document got post code wrong but anyway. In my opinion it just seems really petty, everything else in place, finance etc. Just wondered if anyone has had similar experience? Cheers
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.2 EAC fail again?????? 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys just wondered if anyone can help i posted on this forum a long while back about a ford fiesta i had got on finance which was coming up with the eac fail message . i put it into the garage twice for them to fix it and it has been ok since september but it has now done it over again. • PCP deals - press reporting 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Over the last few days I have read in various daily papers, as well as Auto Express, articles that are saying that people who have cars on PCP deals are going to get "hammered". With a PCP deal, you pay a smaller monthly amount compared to regular finance, but at the end of the period you need to make a "balloon" payment to keep the car. Now the reports are stating that in most cases, these balloon payments are more than the car is worth and therefore the owners are faced with paying this high amount or handing car back.
  • I want a gorgeous car... 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am thinking possibly a MINI but I won't be able to afford a post-04 model, and all the pre-04 one's have fragile gearboxes I've heard? I'd consider a new car with finance across 3/4 years if anyone knows of any 0% deals, because I refuse to pay interest...
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Good times over ..motoring on the cheap! 3 May 2008 (Forum)
The Celtic tiger is a distant memory here in Ireland......after a succession of newish and new cars I asked myself did I really need to be held to ransom by the bank/finance company? Anyway while still driving an 06 car decided to look for a cheap runabout....looked at a few and spotted a Nisan micra '93 1 litre jobbie that looked promising. After a bit of haggling bought the car for 250 euro which is about 180 sterling.
  • Websites that agree to sell your vehicle 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My registration fee of £79.99 would then be refunded as they don't make any money from the sales of the vehicles, they make their money from the finance. During the registration phone call the operative said that if I was unhappy with the service that I had received my account would be refunded. One week later....No phone calls from any potential purchasers...appalling customer service...operatives with extreme attitude...and now they are not happy to refund me and said that they only ever agreed to credit me - which is no use whatsoever as I would never choose to use them again.
  • Car loans - have you got Payment Protection Ins 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
According to Martin Lewis of Moneysavingexpert.com, most people who have been duped into buying this insurance can probably claim their premiums back. As many here will have taken out finance at some point in their lives to buy a set of wheels I hope that the moderators will see a firm motoring link, however I will not moan too much if this gets slotted into "I have a question". This guy knows what he's talking about.
  • Replacement for Volvo 760 estate 22 May 2006 (Forum)
Leather interior. 9. Must be reliable. 10. She has a good pension and can afford 20K to spend outright, no finance. She is a business person and can do a good deal with any salesperson. She likes the V70 but is there anything else that might suit her?
