  Drivers will be able to choose from rear- and four-wheel drive versions, petrol or diesel engines, plus manual or automatic gearboxes. The top of the range model will use the F-Types 380PS supercharged V6 while at the other end of the spectrum the 2.0-litre diesel will offer 180PS and low CO2 emissions (129g/km) and decent fuel economy (57.7mpg).

  The new, smaller engines are optimised and deliver higher performance than today's six-cylinder units, while offering lower fuel consumption than the current generation of four-cylinder units.   New Engines and Specs for Alfa 156 8 Jun 2002 (News)
  Alfa Romeo has announced that it is now importing 156s with its new 165bhp 2.0 litre JTS direct injection petrol engine. The 2.4 litre 156 JTD direct injection diesel gets a power hike to 150bhp. And first imports of the blisteringly fast 250bhp 3.2 litre GTA are now arriving. JTS stands for Jet Thrust Stoichiometric. Alfa has abandoned twin spark plugs in favour of directly injecting the fuel air mixture to the combustion chamber, running at lean burn to 1,500rpm and a stoichiometric 14.7:1 air:fuel mixture thereafter.

  Volvo announces new car prices 1 Oct 2008 (News)
  Volvo has said buyers who do decide to opt for one of the new vehicles will find they are all cheap cars to run, describing the fuel economy as "outstanding". The C30 offers 64.2 miles per gallon (mpg), the S40 62.8 mpg and the V50 62.8 mpg. The DRIVe vehicles are due to be unveiled later this weekend at the Paris Motor Show which runs from the 4th to the 19th of the month.

  It can hit 149 mph at top speed and also get to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds from standstill, but it does so while in possession the cleanest diesel engine in the world, according to the firm. The vehicle also contains a built-in efficiency process which allows the car to reduce fuel consumption by nearly 20 per cent. "Combining the sun worshipping potential of a classic cabriolet with the mountain-scaling agility of a quattro-equipped 'off-roader', the Cross Cabriolet quattro could form the basis of a future SUV model from Audi," commented the firm.

  In addition, it may be able to help motorists reduce the amount they spend at the pump as it boasts fuel economy of 68.9 mpg. The car is equipped with a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine and will be released at the same time as two other versions of the auto fitted with the same unit. Available to order immediately, first deliveries of all three vehicles are scheduled for September.

  The entire five-door Bravo range will now feature the 165 bhp 2.0 MultiJet unit, the company explains. Featuring a diesel particulate filter, the powerhouse is capable of delivering greater performance, with torque increased to 360 Newton metres, reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption of 53 mpg over the combined cycle.

  The A8 averaged over 12mpg during its high-speed runs. "Audi has proven beyond doubt that its has the most advanced range of diesel engines in the world, which combine not only record breaking pace, but also high fuel efficiency, and crucially for company British motorists, among the lowest CO2 emissions of any manufacturer," commented Kevin Rose, Audi UK Director.

It’s all part of its controversial clean air plan and comes just weeks after France made a similar announcement.
