Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Jaguar reveals the F-Pace SUV

Published 15 September 2015

Jaguar has revealed its long-awaited F-pace SUV to the crowds at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The car, which has been almost four years in the making, will be built at Solihull and goes on sale early next year with prices starting from £34,170.

Drivers will be able to choose from rear- and four-wheel drive versions, petrol or diesel engines, plus manual or automatic gearboxes. The top of the range model will use the F-Types 380PS supercharged V6 while at the other end of the spectrum the 2.0-litre diesel will offer 180PS and low CO2 emissions (129g/km) and decent fuel economy (57.7mpg). There will also be a 3.0-litre diesel with 700Nm of torque.

Based on the F-type, the F-Pace should offer excellent ride and handling thanks to the double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension. It also uses JLR’s aluminium architecture to keep vehicle weight down without compromising structural rigidity or safety.

Inside, there’s a 10.2-inch tablet-style touchscreen infotainment system, while you’ll also be able to connect up to eight devices to the car’s Wi-Fi hotspot, which means it can act as a mobile office or entertainment centre for the kids. Other tech includes a virtual 12.3-inch HD instrument cluster with full-screen 3D navigational display. Luggage space is an impressive 650 litres - enough for four large suitcases.

There’s also something called the ‘activity key’ - a waterproof, shockproof wristband with an integrated transponder. This wearable technology allows the keyfob to be securely locked inside the vehicle. This key works on the same RF frequencies as the other keys and is used to lock and unlock the vehicle by holding it in close proximity to the J of the Jaguar lettering on the tailgate. And the activity key has no battery, so you never have to worry about changing it.
