BMW M2 (2016 - 2021)

3.0 Competition DCT 2dr
Can’t bear to part with it. Actually none of the family can.
Bought new, this car has been all things to all of the family. I’ve used it for holidays, for bouncing round the mountains here in northern Italy in the company of an Alfa 4C, for the long trips back to the UK and for, well, days when I just needed a giggle. My wife used it when there was NOTHING else available. My daughter has taken it to Germany for her year in business, used it to cart her stuff back to the UK and it makes occasional appearances on her instagram page in places she didn’t tell me she was going to take it. My son? He learned to drive in it and is the only person I really trust with it - he was stopped by the local Police here… …and asked why he wasn’t driving it faster.
This is a car which is sometimes docile and always predictable with the traction and stability controls on. The acceleration is ferocious when you look for it, the stubby chassis has tremendous turn in bite and controllable oversteer on demand. Switch it off and all bets are off. EVERYONE I know from the drivers course it came with binned theirs when they switched it off. It fools you into thinking it’s your friend when they are on. Off and it bites hard.
We tried to replace it. Actually we did replace it. Only when the time came to take it to the dealer to trade in for the replacement car, I drove home alone in the new car. In my rearview mirror I watched just a small smile creep onto my wife’s face as she drove the M2 Competition, our M2 Competition, back home. It was she who couldn’t let it go.
