Overall reliability

great drive, economical BUT SO unreliable and iffy dealers

I've had the car for 5 months now - Its a great drive, fast, sporty and economical.
Around where I live i thought there were only 2 straights long enough to overtake - no longer :-) AND I get around 48MPG
Now the bad bits - the SRS light came on for the 3rd time over the weekend so I'll have to take the car in for diagnosis, wait a week for the parts , having to drive around in an unsafe car with airbags probably not working (no chance of a replacement for the week)
the 1 series of 2008 has been subject to a recall in the US re the SRS system - nothing here apparently
The car fails to start ocassionally but 5/ 15 minutes later will start no problem - as there are no fault codes the BMW dealer refuses to do anything although they admitted they would look IF I was paying (BMW would not pay for such investigations) and yesterday morning? I got back to the car and although the car was locked the drivers door window was 3/4 of the way down - such great fun as it was raining.
Also sundry "little" probs -such as the hood went green with algae, some usually disappear before I can get a suitable time to take it back like the electric side mirror not dipping when taking reverse
So in short - a lovely car to drive BUT I'd never ever buy any BMW again
PS I had a few words with the dealer principal after I marked the place down in their interminable surveys - he seemed offended that I didn't enjoy the the leather sofas, real coffee in china cups, the biscuits, orange juice or water, free wifi, huge flat screen telly - I had to explain that the Honda dealer I used previously despite only having a small portable and instant coffee in a plastic cup I only ever saw them once a year for a service (rather than go back every other week) and they WOULD give me a car for the day, they'd also volunteer to fit a bulb or a rear wiper blade free
