Mazda has lifted the covers from the third-generation CX-5, a model it hopes will continue the success of what has been its best-selling SUV in the UK.
First introduced in 2012, and updated with the second-generation model in 2017, the CX-5 has been a cornerstone of Mazda’s global range, with more than 4.5 million units sold. Due to arrive in the UK in 2026, the new CX-5 is bigger, with more cabin space, improved practicality and a sleek new look – Mazda said it’s stylish and functional, like a favourite jacket. Make of that what you will… Unlike a jacket, it has slim LED headlights and taillights, a higher front end and bold lettering instead of the traditional Mazda badges.
2026 Mazda CX-5 prices and release date

Production for the new Mazda CX-5 starts in October, and the first cars should arrive in UK showrooms in the first half of 2026. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but look to start at around 35,000 Euros (£30,200) in Europe, so expect similar prices here.
2026 Mazda CX-5 styling, interior and technology

At 4690mm long, 1860mm wide and 1695mm tall, the latest Mazda CX-5 is bigger than its predecessor in every dimension, with a longer wheelbase (2815mm) that should provide extra legroom. The boot size is up to 583 litres of space, with a lower loading lip and a flat floor to give easier access.
The interior features a large touchscreen – 12.9 or 15.6 inches across, depending on trim – that dominates the centre console and replaces most physical controls. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Higher trims being in luxuries like leather upholstery, ambient lighting in a choice of seven colours, and a panoramic sunroof for extra airiness in the cabin.

There’s new tech, too. Much of the infotainment has Google built-in, with Google Maps,. Assistant and Play Store all available as standard, which brings Mazda in line with rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Volvo XC40. Other premium rivals include the Audi Q3, while more affordable alternatives will include the Kia Sportage, Skoda Karoq and Toyota RAV4.
Upper trims in the new CX-5 will a Bose 12-speaker sound system, and there’s a range of advanced driver assistance systems to boost safety, including a Driver Emergency Assist feature that brings the car to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.
2026 Mazda CX-5 engines

Under the bonnet, there’ll be just one option to start with. A naturally aspirated 2.50litre petrol engine, with a 24V mild-hybrid system, makes 141PS and 238Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. It replaces the 2.0-litre engine of the outgoing CX-5, and should be good for a leisurely 10.5-second acceleration to 62mph from standstill. The CX-5 is front-wheel-drive for now, although all-wheel-drive versions are expected to follow.
The chassis has been tuned specifically for European roads, with Mazda pitching its signature blend of comfort and agility. The springs are softer than before, with revised dampers to better absorb lumpy road surfaces, and we’re also promised improved steering feel and pedal response for a more engaging driving experience. There are new seats designed for better spinal support and reduced head movement.
