Jaecoo 5 2025: Prices, specs and release date

  • New Jaecoo 5 is the firm’s smallest model yet
  • Small SUV rival to the Ford Puma
  • Launches in petrol guise with an EV version following later
  • Prices from £24,505 and set for UK launch in October

The new Jaecoo 5 small SUV will arrive later this year to go head-to-head with Britain’s best-selling car, the Ford Puma.

The new Jaecoo 5 will be launched in petrol-powered guise first, with an electric version offering a 250-mile range following later.

Slotting in below the Jaecoo 7, the new Jaecoo 5 continues the design themes of its bigger brother, offering an upscale SUV appearance outside and in.

Measuring almost 4.4 metres long, the new Jaecoo 5 is at the larger end of the small SUV sector. It’s around 200mm longer than the best-selling Ford Puma. Other rivals that are a touch smaller include the Volkswagen T-Cross, the Nissan Juke, pluds French pair the Peugeot 2008 and latest Renault Captur.

The new Jaecoo 7 will stand apart from them thanks to a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty. This matches a similarly-sized rival, the Kia Niro.

Bosses already have high hopes for the new Jaecoo 5, describing it as a model with "big aspirations for market share."

Given the success of the Jaecoo 7, the launch of the new Jaecoo 5 later this summer is set to be a significant one for small SUV buyers.

2025 Jaecoo 5 prices and release date

The new Jaecoo 5 will cost from £24,505 in entry-level Pure guise. That means it easily undercuts rivals such as the best-selling Ford Puma, starting prices of which are more than £2000 higher.

The top-spec new Jaecoo 5 Luxury will cost £28,000.

New Jaecoo 5 deliveries are expected from October 2025. Ordering will open ahead of this, later in the summer.

2025 Jaecoo 5 styling, interior and technology

The new Jaecoo 5 follows the same style as the larger Jaecoo 7. It has a clean, almost premium look, with influences from the Range Rover Evoque.

The new Jaecoo 5 has tighter proportions and crisper design features. The front grille’s distinctive vertical bars are set within a square frame and the LED running lights are more angular.

The Jaecoo 5 has the same tight shoulderline that runs front to rear, connecting the headlights to the rear lights. It has pull-out doorhandles rather than retractable ones and it lacks the lower black sill finisher of the Jaecoo 7.

Somehow, the rear lights of the new Jaecoo 5 appear even more Range Rover Evoque-like and the tailgate carries an extra-large Jaecoo 5 logo. Nigel Mansell fans will be pleased the ‘5’ is depicted in red.

There’s currently only one official image of the new Jaecoo 5’s interior. This showcases its large 13.2-inch portrait-style touchscreen, which is standard on all models. It is complemented by an additional driver display that’s set seamlessly beneath a full-width gloss black panel.

The new Jaecoo 5 is largely buttonless, with all major controls adjusted through the touchscreen. It appears to have a dedicated section at the bottom for climate control adjustments. There are touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel, too.

The new Jaecoo 5 has a wireless charging pad beneath the centre touchscreen – it’s cooled on top-spec Luxury models. This will facilitate the standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without your smartphone going flat.

The new Jaecoo 5 also has a standard six-speaker Sony-branded premium audio system.

Above the freestanding touchscreen, the top of the new Jaecoo 5’s dashboard is flat, giving a clean appearance. There are dual cupholders in the centre console – set at a snazzy angle – and extra stowage space beneath it.

The new Jaecoo 5 has space inside for five adults, who will enjoy good refinement from double-layered glass. Further back, there is a commodious 480-litre boot, which grows to 1180 litres with the rear seats folded.

The new Jaecoo 5 will be offered as standard in Pure guise. Luxury grade adds further equipment, including an eight-speaker Sony stereo, power-adjustable heated and cooled seats plus sleeker interior finishes. The new Jaecoo 5 Luxury also has ambient lighting and a tilt-slide sunroof measuring 1.45 square metres.

2025 Jaecoo 5 engines, performance and fuel economy

The new Jaecoo 5 launches with a 1.6-litre turbo engine, paired as standard with a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox. It produces 147PS and drives the front wheels.

This is the same four-cylinder engine that features in the larger Jaecoo 7. There, it delivers 0-62mph performance in around 10.0 seconds and averages a somewhat so-so 37.7mpg. The new Jaecoo 5 should be a little faster and, hopefully, a little more fuel-efficient.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the new Jaecoo 5 will be offered in all-wheel drive guise. There is no word yet on whether there will be a plug-in hybrid version, either.

The new Jaecoo 5 will, however, be available as an EV. This is expected to use a 61kWh battery and 204PS electric motor, as seen in the Omoda E5. It will have a range upwards of 250 miles.

As with all modern cars, the new Jaecoo 5 will have a range of driver assist safety technology. The firm boasts of 19 ADAS features "to support drivers when needed."

Jaecoo UK country director Victor Zhang says the new Jaecoo 5 "delivers the premium SUV experience without the bulk.

Whether you’re travelling solo, with family, or four-legged passengers in tow, it really has been engineered with thoughtful features for every journey, alongside the best in safety and driver-assistance technologies."
