Should I have been told that a used car I bought was previously written off?
I bought a 63 plate Skoda Yeti last year as a second car for the dogs. I’m planning to part-ex it but the dealer who is buying notified me that at some point in 2024 it had failed the MoT then marked as sold as salvage at auction. So instead of 5k he’s only offering 2.5k. I did a full RAC check and it did say it had previously failed MoT but I bought it with a valid MoT. Should I have been told about the salvage status and is the dealer being fair?

You don't mention where you bought the vehicle from originally, but we would have expected a vehicle history check to show that it had previously been written off. If you bought privately then you have limited recourse, as you would have to prove that the previous owner knew of its status when selling it, but if you bought from a dealer then you may have some grounds to claim that if you were aware that it had been previously damaged you would not have bought the vehicle. We would suggest starting with contacting the provider of the history check to determine why all of its history was not provided.
