Citroen reveals DS5

Citroen has revealed the lastest addition to the DS line, the DS5, at the Shanghai Auto Show.

It’s set to feature hybrid technology, allowing for 200bhp and four wheel drive but with emissions still as low as 99g/km.

The DS5 is based on the C-SportLounge concept, and it shows some of the styling features of other models in the DS range, with a similar five-door hatchback silhouette to the DS4.

The front end features LED running lights, like those first seen on DS3, and there is an oversized grille. Chrome highlights stretch from the headlights up to the windscreen.

The rest of the design is bold and aggressive, with large wheels and wide wheel arches, leading to a striking rear end with two large tailpipes set into the bumper.

The interior styling is similarly impressive. A coupe-like driving position is enhanced by a near-vertical steering wheel and wide centre console. In fact, there are two centre consoles, one on the floor and one above the drivers head, much like an aircraft.

The aircraft inspiration continues with a colour heads-up display, projecting information into the drivers line of sight.

The high quality seen in DS3 and DS4 is present in the DS5 too, with attention to detail and considered material selection evident in the choice of upholstery.

The DS5 is designed to be practical as well as stylish – with five doors and a boot capacity of up to 465-litres.

The Shanghai show car features unique, one-off paint and leather interior colours, as well as specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels.

There are no details as yet of the on-sale date or of pricing.
