Hybrid Auris emits just 89g/km

Toyota will take the wraps off its new Auris HSD hybrid model at the Geneva motorshow. The petrol-electric hybrid will then go on sale in the UK this summer.

Thanks to the Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) petrol-electric power for this Auris, it produces only 89g/km of carbon dioxide. This means the Auris HSD will be road tax-free and also able to enter London's Congestion Charge zone without the need to pay.

The Auris HSD is capable of 74.3mpg combined economy and can run on electricity alone for up to 1.2 miles and at speeds of up to 30mph.

Toyota will build the Auris HSD at its Burnaston, Derby plant in the UK, while the hybrid engine will be made at the firm's Deeside factory in North Wales. There's no word yet on prices, but Toyota says the Auris HSD will lead the way for hybrid versions of all its cars by the start of the 2020s.
