Tyre Safety launches app to reduce road casualties

Published 29 October 2014

Road charity organisation TyreSafe has launched a mobile phone app aimed at reducing the number of tyre-related casualties in the UK.

The Tyre Safety Companion, available on iTunes and Google Play, includes tips on how to check tyre pressures, what to do in the event of a puncture, and the location of tyre centres nationwide.

TyreSafe recently commissioned a survey that found almost one in five had never checked their tyre tread depth; in 2013, defective or under-inflated tyres were linked to 1,000 road casualties. Drivers with illegal tyres can be fined up to £2,500 and given three penalty points per tyre.

“Our new app ensures drivers can easily access a wealth of tyre related information,” said Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe Chairman. “Answers to some of the most common questions we’re asked by drivers are available within this app. We’ll even send you timely reminders designed to help prolong the life of your tyres and maximise your safety on the road.”

The Tyre Safety Companion is available now, free of charge.

It's stupid just how many accidents are caused by tyres... and how lazy we are in getting new tyres. It's not just a car part, it's actually a safety aspect!
