Drivers urged to choose tyres carefully

Fri, 29 May 2009
Motorists who want to protect the no-claims bonus on their car insurance policy may want to choose their tyres carefully.

TyreSafe has warned people who purchase this important vehicle part online to avoid cutting costs in this area.

It explained some drivers may be tempted to pick a cheaper product with a speed symbol under the recommended level for their car.

However, the group stated this could affect the way an auto handles and put the vehicle's occupants in danger.

Chairman Stuart Jackson commented: "While many motorists may be feeling the pinch in the current economic climate, we would encourage them not to compromise on road safety."

Motorists who go for a cheaper option only to end up in an accident may find it was a false economy, as drivers who are considered to be at fault in a collision often see a significant rise in the cost of their car insurance premiums.
