Insurer warns of booze cruise blunders

Wed, 10 Dec 2008
Drivers planning to go on a booze cruise to France in the run-up to Christmas are being urged to check their car insurance cover before leaving.

According to esure, motorists may find their comprehensive insurance is reduced to third party as soon as they leave the UK.

Spokesman Mike Pickard said: "When planning to take a car to Europe, it is … crucial for motorists to call their insurer and tell them that they want to extend their level of cover for driving abroad."

Research conducted by esure also revealed 33 per cent of UK motorists think driving rules and regulations are the same throughout Europe.

The insurer warned - as a result of this misconception - some 57 per cent of British drivers were breaking the law when taking their vehicles to France because they were not carrying a warning triangle - a compulsory requirement in the country.

In other news, previous research by esure found more than half of motorists in the UK were failing to get up earlier to allow extra time for their daily commute to work, despite the fact they were aware wintry weather was likely to cause delays.
