Increase in motor show visitors this summer

Wed, 06 Aug 2008
The number of people visiting the British International Motor Show (BIMS) is up on previous events, show organisers have stated.

According to officials, some 472,300 people went through the turnstiles at London ExCeL in order to get a closer look at some of the biggest cars in the industry.

This is an increase of 57,300 - or 14 per cent - on the number of people who visited the biennial event in 2006.

Motorists may have been using the event to get up close and personal with some of the newer vehicles on the market - perhaps seeking car buying advice from officials on-hand.

One such vehicle displayed at the show was the powerful Mini John Cooper Works hatchback.

Kirsty Perkinson, BIMS marketing director, stated that a "wide-range" of features brought people to this year's event.

She said it was "not only [due] to the quality of the global debuts and the support of such a fantastic collection of motor manufacturers, but also to the wide range of interactive attractions and family-friendly features".
