Something For Everyone at Auction Today

Wed, 12 Feb 2003
Today, in the same hall, you could have bought am 89F FIAT Panda for £40, a 98R Nissan Skyline GTR for £15,900, or a 96P Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious Esprit V8 for £16,000. (It was a non-runner with gearbox and fuel system problems.)

But when you see things like a 49k mile 97P Lada Samara sell for all of £110, you’re well aware there are more customers than cars.

Part-exchange rubbish was making bags of cash: 122k mile 90H Renault 5 Campus £70; 79k mile unwarranted, imported 89F Nova 1.2 Merit £240; 27k mile 91H Peugeot 205 1.1XR £525; 79k mile 86D Renault 25 V6 auto bid to £120. Even an 89k mile 92K Frontera Sport sold for £1,925. While an admittedly very tidy 92k mile 92K reg BMW 318iS with sunroof bid to a serious £3,575.

Mondeos also seem to have picked up a bit. A 61k mile 95M 1.8LX auto sold for £825; a 147k mile 98S 1.8LX bid to £1,175, and a 15k mile 2001X 1.8 Verona in a nice metallic grey sold for £4,950.

If anything, Vectras have nosed ahead of Mondeos. A 115k mile 98S SRI 140 sold for £2,100, a 86k mile 95N 1.8GLS sold for £1,900 and a 103k mile 96P 2.0GLS auto sold for £1,550.

A scruffy 46k mile 99T MX5 1.8S left its reserve of £7,650 way behind to sell for £8,150. A 4k mile 2002/52 Lexus IS300 Sportcross with the doubtful history of personal import and two owners sold for £21,400. A monstrous 25k mile Y reg Nissan Patrol 3.0DI SE+ 7-seater sold for £17,950; a 92k mile and a 12k mile Y reg Alfa 156 2.0TS Veloce Sportwagon sold for £10,200.

Were there any bargains? There are always bargains. A 99V Rover 75 2.0CDT Club bid to just £4,850, which would have seemed cheap if it wasn’t for the mileage of 138,459. So car of the day had to be a clean, tidy 76k mile 96P Toyota Camry 3.0V6 auto with leather, sold to the man with the private hire business for £2,900.

Remember, BCA Blackbushe has switched its Friday LCV sale to Thursdays, so Friday’s sale is now 3 halls of cars. For information of upcoming BCA auctions, visit Full list of auction centres throughout the country at (go back to the home-page and click on auction directory).

There’s a really good Classic Auction coming up by H&H at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton on 19th February. Entries include what appears to be a fabulous 1959 Mercedes 300SL with excellent history and four wheel disc brake conversion estimated at a conservative £100,000 - £120,000. I’d have thought more than that for a really good one, as these still provide a great drive: better than any standard E-Type Jaguar including the SIII. Other entries include a historic racing 1955 Peugeot 203, a 1934 MG NA Magnette single seater, an ex Gerry Marshall 1965 TVR Griffith V8 coupe, the 1956 EJS Climax Sports Special and plenty more both ancient and modern: a 1949 Land Rover, a 1930 Humber 16/50 DHC, a 1952 Healey Tickford 2.4, a 1935 Graham Paige, a 1963 Lagonda Rapide, a 1992 Jag XJ220 and even a 1956 Paramount. Automobilia will be sold the day before: Tuesday 18th February. More details from H&H by phoning 01925 730630, or by visiting Please note H&H has finally raised its commission rate from 5% to 7.5% + VAT (on the commission only).

And remember, Brightwells HUGE 4x4 SALES at Leominster have now gone WEEKLY instead of fortnightly. The next is next Tuesday, 18th February at Leominster Market on the A49 by-pass, Leominster, Herefordshire, phone: 01568 611325, website:
