Touareg on its way to London's deserts

The new high-riding 4x4 estate car from VW is due in the UK in summer 2003. It will be 4,750mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,720mm high and will have a choice of 4.2 V8 petrol, V6 petrol, V10 TDI and 2.5 litre V6 TDI engines. The transfer box has a low ratio range and three locking diffs and, with short overhangs, the offroad capability should be high. Top speed of the most powerful versions is limited to 155mph. Designed to compete with BMW X5, MB ML, Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover.
