More Powerful Shogun Sport for 2002

Mon, 05 Nov 2001
Mitsubishi's rugged, chassis-based Shogun Sport gets the new L200's uprated Step III 2.5 diesel engine from mid November, which brings it a 16% power boost and a 5% improvement in economy. A slightly modified Shogun Sport V6 also goes on sale at the same time.

The 5-seater Shogun Sport meets demand for a comfortable SUV with plenty of luggage capacity. The revised 4-cylinder in-line 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine delivers 177 lb ft (240Nm) torque at just 2,000 rpm thanks to its long-stroke design and twin-scroll turbocharger with intercooler. 'Silent Shaft' technology ensures smooth engine performance. A variable nozzle turbocharger also boosts top-end power by a healthy 16%, which has resulted in an improved power output of 114 bhp at 4,000 rpm (previously 98 bhp at 4,000rpm). The 2.5 engine gives an Extra Urban fuel consumption figure of 31.4 mpg (Equippe model), an increase of over 5%.

Mitsubishi's 3.0 V6 ECI-MULTI Step III engine delivers 168bhp at 5,000 rpm and 188 lb ft ( 255Nm) torque at 4,500 rpm, and an Extra Urban fuel consumption figure of 28.5mpg (Equippe manual model). Although this revised engine produces slightly less bhp (168 v 174) in order to meet Euro III regulations, there is no real notable difference in vehicle performance.

Other specification changes include; electrically folding door mirrors, improved security by means of additional door lock shielding, a more luxurious 'soft-feel' seat trim, and the addition of EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) to the ABS braking system on Equippe and Elegance models. The vehicle is fitted with a robust 4WD system, similar to that of the L200 Double Cab, which enables the driver to maintain maximum all-terrain performance or to save fuel and tyre wear, when driven in 2WD on normal roads.

The Shogun Sport is available in three trim levels, Classic, Equippe or Elegance, with prices starting at £19,000 for the 2.5 TD Classic, ranging to £24,495 for the 3.0 litre V6 Elegance petrol model with automatic transmission. The Shogun Sport has a CO2 tax band of D.

All models are available in Sophia White, Satellite Silver or Grand Blue. Equippe and Elegance models are available in two-tone colours of Grand Blue over Fraser Beige, Timber Green over Fraser Beige, Roanne Red over Fraser Beige or Pyrenees Black over Fraser Beige.
