Super Hot New MGs at Frankfurt

MG Rover is today unveiling two supercars in the metal: a £50,000 160mph 2+2 alloy bodied sports coupe based on the Qvale Mangusta code-named the X80. Power will come from 4.6 litre V8 engines with outputs from 260bhp to 385bhp. Manual or automatic transmissions will be offered. Launch date is Summer 2002.

The other MG supercar is a 385bhp rear-drive version of the Rover 75 based MG ZT to be called the MG ZT XPower 385. Torque is a mammoth 385lb ft (522Nm) fed through a six-speed manual box, zero to 60 is predicted at less than 5 seconds, top speed will be 175mph and the price will be around £40,000. A Touring version will also be available when the car goes on sale in summer, 2002, together with a softer 260bhp version. (Photo of this car in the car by car breakdown.)
