New Audi Suspension Failure Warning

Wed, 26 Sep 2001
Today's 'Autocar' carries news of rear suspension failures on Audi S3 quattros and Audi TT quattros. What happens is that the lower rear hub carrier ball joints corrode and seize up, imposing a strain on the lower rear suspension arms which can lead the arms to snap at the hub ends. THE PROBLEM ONLY AFFECTS CARS BUILT UP TO MARCH 2000. Audi has set up a number for owners and drivers to call: 0800 699 888. Other models with the same rear suspension set-up and the same problem include early production LHD SEAT Leon 20VT-4 four wheel drives. No two wheel drive VAG vehicles are affected by this new recall, even though VAG has been having a lot of trouble with lower front suspension bushes on old shape Audi A4s and Passats.
