Vauxhalls Better Value at Auction

Wed, 28 Mar 2001
Today I saw my first cheap new shape Astra at auction. It was a basic spec 98S 1.6 Envoy 5-door in solid green with 68,000 miles under its wheels and sold for a fair £4,350. A higher spec 13,000 mile 99T Astra 1.6 Club estate with a roof rack bid to £6,500, and a one year old 11,000 mile 2000W Astra 1.6 Club 5-door bid to £7,150. An eleven month old 11,000 mile 2000W Vectra 2.0iLS automatic bid to a fair £8,025, which has been the standard price level for these cars at this age for years. While a much higher spec eleven month old 13,000 mile Vectra 2.0 CD automatic sold for £8,750, confirming the price bracket. But no chance of a cheap Zafira as yet. A nine month old 14,000 mile 2000W Zafira 1.8 Comfort automatic bid all the way to a high £11,200. Other ups and downs included a 58,000 mile 97P Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Executive automatic, bid to a fair £9,250; an 81,000 mile 98R Jaguar XJ8 auto with leather, sunroof and aircon bid to £10,600; an 87,000 mile 97P Mercedes S500 with all the bits, sold for £14,700; and a 22 month old 5,000 mile 99T XJ8 with leather, sunroof and aircon bid to £17,300. An 11 month old 18,000 mile 2000W Rover 25 1.1i 5-door (the very basic model) bid to a high £6,800, but a year old 12,000 mile 2000W Ford Focus 2.0iGhia with Zetec alloys, ABS and CD was slightly cheaper than Focuses have been at £9,200 provisional. Cheap cheapies included an 85,000 mile 94L Mazda MX5 engined Xedos 6 1.6 which started at just £1,000 and bid to £1,950; an ex-police 73,000 mile 96N Omega 3.0 litre automatic in maroon rather then white, which sold for £3,000; and a 127,000 mile 98R facelift model Renault Laguna 2.0RT automatic which sold for £3,200.
