More Ups Than Downs at Auction Today

Fri, 23 Mar 2001
From what I saw at BCA Blackbushe today, used prices have jumped quite a bit. But whether they are sustainable is another matter. Quiet a lot of cars did not reach their reserve prices and, in the words of one dealer who failed to sell a single car last week, "they won't get them because we can't". That wasn't always the case. 10,000 to 16,000 mile 99T and V Nissan Micra Profiles, all with PAS, which had been selling for £3,950 to £4,100 last week, rose to between £4,250 and £4,600. All that killed than was colour with a white 99V failing to attract a bid of more than £3,750. Ford KAs were making ridiculous money, with £4,875 paid for a silver 16,000 mile 99T KA2 and £4,225 for a battered aubergine 30,000 mile 99T plain KA. You have to be careful where you park a KA in Norway, it seems. Otherwise an amorous Moose might just mistake it for a sexy female and defecate all over it. And 15,000 mile 99T new shape Clio 1.2s with PAS were all comfortably over the £5,000 mark. Old-shape E36 BMWs remain very strong, particularly the four cylinder models not tainted by potential engine problems. A 72,000 mile 98R 318iSE saloon sold for £7,900; a 73,000 mile 98R 316i Coupe with a/c sold for £8,150; a 39,000 mile 98R 318Ti Compact saw a top bid of £8,350, a 75,000 mile 97R 318iS Coupe with a/c sold for £8,900. Only a 100,000 mile 97R 316i saloon without anything going for it, not even a sunroof, sold cheaply at £5,950. Part exchanges were dear, too. Someone actually paid £475 for a worn out 102,000 mile 88F Nissan Micra 1.0 5-door. Crazy when, just a few cars before it, an 80,000 mile 88F MG Metro sold for just £125.
