Big Day at Blackbushe

Mon, 19 Mar 2001
BCAs Spring Convertible Sale, combined with Top Car, a Fleet Sale and a Sale of Hartwell Group Part-Exchanges attracted buyers by the thousand today. After all, where else could you have bought four Porsche Boxters, a Ferrari 550 Maranello and around seventy-five convertibles all at the same place on the same day? Boxter prices were £25,400 for a repossessed 31,000 mile 99S; £27,700 for a repossessed 21,000 mile 99T; £28,000 for the ex-Leaseplan 14,000 mile 99T; and £29,000 for a repossessed 27,000 mile 99T Tiptronic. The 9,300 mile 99V Ferrari 550 Maranello was another repossession, so its mileage could not be warranted, and repaired frontal accident damage was declared. Top bid was £82,000, provisional; not bad for a car that lists at £152,000 new. Another Ferrari, this time a 39,000 mile 92K Testarossa, sold for £29,000. Cheapest convertible was a 20,000 mile 98S Astra 1.6, sold for £7,000; MGFs sold from £9,350; MGF VVCs from £10,700; BMW Z3s from £12,350; Audi Cabrios from £10,100; SAAB 900 Cabrios from £10,900; SAAB 9-3 Cabrios from £14,550. There was literally something for everyone. Cheapest BMW M3 Evo convertible was a 103,000 mile 98R with a hardtop at £16,500; most expensive was a 29,000 mile 98R at £21,600. Top bid for the 43,000 mile 99T Jaguar XK8 convertible was £36,750 and apparently nowhere near enough, while top bid for a tin top 21,000 mile 98S XKR Supercharged was £35,200. To my mind, bargains of the day were a repossessed but very smart 26,000 mile 98S Jaguar XJR8 Supercharged which sold for £23,500; and four 10,000 mile 2000V Citroen Xantia 1.8iLXs which sold for between £5,200 and £5,275. There will be fleet and general sales at BCA Blackbushe on Wednesday and Friday and next Monday 26th March sees a Classic Car Sale with plenty of interesting entries (special phone line: 01252 877317; special website To subscribe to BCA Auctionview, giving composite prices achieved and details of cars in upcoming BCA auctions, visit
