Toyota Unveils its new Avensis MPV

Tue, 20 Feb 2001
The seven-seater Toyota Avensis Verso makes its World debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 27th February.

It has a low overall height of 1,660mm, but this is combined with a low floor and long wheelbase to give spacious, versatile accommodation for up to seven within an overall length of 4,650mm and width of 1,760mm.

The Verso can be specified as either a five or seven-seater. In seven-seaters, the second row of seats can fold, tumble or be removed completely. In five-seaters, the second row can also slide to provide more legroom or luggage room as required. All seats have headrests and three-point seatbelts.

Engines will be either 2.0 litre VVT-i petrol developing 150bhp at 6,000 rpm and 192Nm (142 lb ft) torque at 4,000 rpm or the 2.0 litre common rail D-4D turbo diesel which develops 116bhp at 4,000 rpm and 250Nm (184 lb ft) torque between 1,800 and 3,000 rpm. Combined consumption for the diesel is 43.5mpg.

All-round disc brakes with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist are standard, as are driver and passenger airbags, remote central double locking and an engine immobiliser. The Avensis Verso will go on sale in Summer 2001. Prices and specs will be announced at a later date.
