New Sports and Economy 206s From Peugeot

Sat, 03 Feb 2001
Peugeot has launched an attractive new version of the 206 to be called the 206Xsi which follows the tyre-prints of the definitive hot hatch of all time, the 205GTi. The new car has a new 1.6 litre 16v engine shared with the Citroen Xsara and putting out 110bhp. This is enough to get the 206Xsi to sixty in around 9.3 seconds and on to 123mph. The economy figures are remarkably good with a combined mpg of 41.5 and CO2 emissions are a reasonable 161g/km. Equipment includes 15" alloy wheels, clear polycarbonate headlamp lenses, black bumpers and a leather trimmed steering wheel and gearknob. The list price is a fair £11,695 on the road including a three year warranty, which is less than twice the cost of the original 205GTi 1.6 in the mid 1980s. I predict that the 206Xsi is going to find a lot of friends. Peugeot has also announced a new 90bhp 206 Eco HDi diesel which emits an ultra low 120g/km CO2. The combined mpg figure for this car is 62.8mpg and the car is priced at £9,845, including a three year warranty. More details at www.Peugeot.co.uk
