New Prices from Nissan, Subaru and Skoda

Using its Active name tag, Nissan has launched a cut-price version of the Primera. Exterior features include a chrome mesh grille. Fifteen inch alloy wheels, colour-coded bumpers and sill extensions, and chrome door handles. Inside (see picture) the dash has grey backed dials, there are kick-plates on the door sills and the upholstery is of a new design. Important standard features include five three-point seat belts, passenger airbag, front fog lights, ice warning signal and remote control, anti-hijack central locking. Subaru has launched a new Forester model named the S-Turbo, which offers 177ps and 181 lb ft torque which get it from 0-60 in 7.7 seconds. Price: £20,745. Gross towing weight remains 1,800kg, which is high for the weight of the vehicle and an automatic version will also be available. Prices for the Forester range now start at £14,495 on the road, which represents a cut of £1,000. More at

Finally, Skoda has announce prices for its highly regarded Fabia estate, still the only way apart from the Fabia itself to buy the next generation VW Polo floorpan.

The Estate meets all current and upcoming safety standards and the hatch received an outstanding four-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests in September 2000. Three petrol engines (1.4 MPI 68bhp; 1.4 16V 100 bhp; and 1.4 16V 75 bhp automatic), and two 1.9 diesel engines (68 bhp SDi and the highly acclaimed 100 bhp Tdi PD).

Three trim levels of Classic, Comfort and Elegance, allow buyers choose the Fabia Estate that is right for them, while providing features that they want and need such as standard power steering, drivers airbag and engine immobiliser. Comfort models gain air conditioning, electric front windows and onboard computer, and Elegance models boast, amongst other things, remote central locking and alarm, alloy wheels, roof rails and heated front seats.
