Vauxhall Cuts Vectra Prices

Tue, 07 Nov 2000
In an attempt to make its ageing Vectra model more competitive against the new Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall has cut prices and added its excellent new chain-cam 2.2 litre four-cylinder engine to the Vectra line-up. Vectra list prices now start at £13,250 for the 1.6i Club model, rising to £20,925 for the 2.6i V6 CDX estate. The mid-range 2.2LS competes directly against Ford's Mondeo 1.8iLX at £14,595, so buyers can choose between a better engine or a better car. Of less benefit to private motorists is a new 20,000-mile interval service regime which is likely to mean that in three years time 80,000-mile ex-fleet Vauxhalls will have only had two or three oil changes – and that their engines will be unlikely to last a second-hand buyer anything like as long as engines which have had the oil changed every 6 months or every 7,000 miles at most.
