Ford announces triumphant end-of-year sales results

Thu, 07 Jan 2010
One in six of those who decided to buy a new car this year may have gone for a Ford if the manufacturer's figures are anything to go by.

The carmaker stated one in six new vehicles sold this past year was a Ford and registered a 0.5 percentage point increase in market share during that same period.

Managing director Nigel Sharp said the firm was optimistic about 2010.

"Ford will continue to benefit from a flow of new models, including S-MAX, Galaxy and C-MAX and the unrivalled strength of its dealer network," he explained.

January 13th will be the official debut of the first two models, which shall be unveiled at the 2010 Brussels Motor Show.

The Ford Fiesta took over the top UK sales position from the Ford Focus and the pair retained first and second places for the entire year.

According to the manufacturer, the success of the former could be attributed to its economy and low carbon emissions.
