The clutch on my 94 golf vr6 is worn out. Does anyone know how difficult a job it is to do at home, i have two hydraulic jacks and two axle stands. Can anyone advise please?

VW 'Book' time for this job is 5 hours, and it would take at least this time to do job in a fully equipped workshop. If you choose to do job yourself you will need to support engine from above & get car jacked up quite high. I also think left hand suspension has to be partially dismantled. Gearbox is very heavy and you would be advised to have some mates on hand. Not a job I would fancy doing in my driveway!

Would have to be pretty technically advanced to do it then?
|
At the very least you would need to be confident & competent. Not a technical job as such, just a lot of work. Also if you do have to take N/S suspension apart, the car will then require the wheel alignment to be checked & adjusted.

Ever done a clutch yourself?
|
Not on this model, although I have done many clutches in a previous life as a Motor Technician! I drive a desk nowdays, a lot cleaner and less hassle.

Just make sure you get the clutch plate the right way round!

I think we're tryin' to say DON'T ATTEMPT IT!!!!!
I wouldn't, not on the floor. Not for love nor money....
