hi not sure if anybody can shed any light as my local garage dont have a clue!

my focus started playing up about 4 months ago so i took it to my local garage to get the ecu read. the fault stored said the waste gate solenoid was at fault and so changed but this did not solve the problem. 4 months on and they still dont know what is wrong.

it starts and runs fine for about 2 mins but then runs lumpy and rough and will not rev past 2000rpm and kicks out a hell of alot of smoke as a result. if it is switched off and restarted straight away it will run fine again for a few mins and then starts running rough again. i suspect injectors but it is an expensive trial and error, and have lost faith in my local garage.

any help appreciated thanks

I would maybe suspect that the 'Turbo' is faulty, wastegate valve if I am correct is where the excess pressure is dumped from the turbo? The turbo usually kicks in around 1800 rpm, so this could be your starting point?

Your best bet would be to take the car to a Diesel specialist,. This might cost you more money to start with, but will be cheaper than waisting money on 'trial and error' part swapping?

the garage first suggested egr but when he looked at it he said it was fine and cuts out at idle so would the egr even be operating at idle? im not sure? thanks though

cant be anything to do with turbo as all the inlet pipes have been removed and even the intercooler and ran and still does the same, also even if its left to idle and no revs applied its still cuts out.

thanks though

You have to be joking,I suggest you take the car to somebody who knows what they are doing.
