This may be a case of closing the stable door, but may be worth a try and might help others. In Outlook Express, go to the Contacts section on the left near the bottom. Click on "Contacts", then Create New Contact. This will bring up the usual window for your new contact where you enter first, middle and last name, e-mail address, etc. In each of the name boxes, type "Aaaaaaa" (as many a's as you like). In the e-mail address space, enter this address:
wormalert@somewhere.com
The thing is, there's no such e-mail address. Using all the a's should put this address at the top of your contacts list - maybe if you have a contact whose "name" starts with a number, you should try 1111 or 0000, I'm not sure. Anyway, viruses that work by sending themselves to every address in your Outlook Express contact list will get stuck on this one, as it doesn't exist. You will the same kind of error message saying something like "message undeliverable" as you would if you'd tried to send an e-mail to the wrong address. If the address is the wormalert one, then you know you've been hit and can take appropriate action.
Otherwise, if it's Klez you should be able to get a free download from the McAfee site which runs through DOS and takes about 2 hours to clean your system. Works, though.

I don't think you need the "wormalert@somewhere.com" bit, you can leave the e-mail address field blank.
In my directory I have also put "ZZZZZZZZ", just in case some clever dick decides to run the address book in reverse order.

Opps, looks like I've been misinformed then. Last time I trust a tip from a colleague! On a more serious note, Mark perhaps you would be so kind as to remove my suggestion (which was made in good faith) to prevent any more people falling into the trap. Thanks.
